“Location is all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

The location is perfect...only seconds to the Duomo and minutes from some good restaurants by the Mercato Centrale. It is also not far from one of the best gelateria in Florence...Grom (a subjective opinion but I stand by it). The staff are very helpful and friendly and the room was large and clean. just a few niggles concerning the lack of light in the room and the bedroom and bathroom were a little tired. Still at a price of E133 a night in Florence in June in such a location it is good value.

This well located hotel was wonderful. The staff was very helpful and the room was impecable. We even got a small kitchen/bkfst area that was an added plus.

Room Tip: Room # 5 was perfect. We loved it.

I was in this hotel last January with my family during the new years holiday. The hotel is very well located, has spottless rooms. The best part of it the staff. They all were very helpfull. A special thank to manager Cristina who made our stay excellent. She helped us with giving information in the city, made reservations for the resturants. We will be back to Tourist House at our next trip to Florence.

Perfect location...1 minute to Duomo.
Check-in process was a bit funky. We rang the bell at the address shown on our reservation confirmation and the staff member then walked us a couple of blocks to our hotel. We were asked to come back to the office the next day with our passports. When we did return, he asked us to just return when we check out. Not a big deal overall, just kind of strange.
Bed had memory foam mattress and wasn't too comfortable.
Room was spacious and clean. Bathroom was spacious, but shower was tiny.

We booked to stay for 3 nights as part of our bi-annual family vacation. We chose this property based on the kitchen facilities - we wanted to be able to cook for ourselves for at least one meal out of the day!

The Tourist House is very easy to find - about a 10 minute walk from the main train station. When we arrived we were informed we were being upgraded (with no charge) to another apartment which was about a 7 minute (2 blocks) away as they had overbooked the main property.

We were a little worried about what we were in for, however we were guided by a wonderful gentleman (I think his name was Frederico) to the apartment in the Piazza della Republica. This is centrally located - about a 2 minute walk to the D'uomo and a 8 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio. It really is the perfect location to stay in Flroence!

It is a secured apartment (so you need a key / code to get in the front door downstairs) and you have to buzz guests in. The apartment is located on the first floor (second floor in America) and though there is a lift, we could never get it to work. It was no big deal as Frederico took care of our luggage. He was fantastic!

The apartment has 2 queen beds, which are divided by a bookshelf / divider, an equipped kitchen with microwave and large bathroom (with a huge double shower). The apartment is also air conditioned with almost block out curtains - which is nice if you wish to have an afternoon nap! Oh and it also has a TV, DVD player and it also has free secured wifi. Everything was clean, serviced and well taken care of - exactly what it should be!

Our host showed us through the apartment and gave us a map outlining where we were and the locations of things around town. He also gave us coupons for our breakfast, which is served in a small restaurant across the road from the main property.

Florence is pretty compact especially when you compare it to other Italian cities - so everything is within walking distance from this apartment. There are several wonderful restaurants in the Piazza downstairs - they will all vie for your business in a very humorous manner!

As for our breakfast - I think they only have one pastry delivery per week. The first day we were there we had several options to choose from, however the second and third mornings the options were dwindling down and the pastries were not as fresh. The coffee, however, was excellent.

Our hosts helped us out by making a reservation for us to visit the Galleria dell Academia and sharing as much information as they could with us. When I compare them to other hotels I have stayed at, their service was 5 star - nothing less.

If you are heading to Florence I really can’t recommend this property enough. Even though we didn’t stay in the main property, I understand from talking to other people at breakfast that the main property is just as wonderful.

Oh, and at the main property when you come in from the hot Tuscan sun, there is plenty of cold water and an ice-cream to help cool you down, which are complimentary!

Room Tip: Ask for the apartment in the Piazza della Republica, if it is available!

We stayed for 2 nights on our way through Florence at the Suite Baptistry - a 3 bedroom apartment. The apartment was lovely, it had a roof top balcony that I would have loved to enjoy more. It had a great espresso machine, the bedrooms were all roomy with a sofa in each, and there was wine in the apartment that we could purchase. It had a bright diningroom that we used as our gathering area, and it had a washer/dryer combo.

No complaints at all... the warnings were that its on a bit of a busy street - so earplugs to sleep are a must, and there was a shower in one bathroom, and one tub that had a wand you could use to wash off (but no shower). Just some European charms!!

The location cannot be beat, just a few minutes walk to the cathedral and shopping. If I were coming to Florence again, I would definitely stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Be clear on how many *bedrooms* you need. We had 4 people, but needed 3 bedrooms, hence the reason...

Recently spent 5 days here....what a great spot. Near the train station, up the street from the duomo, and a 5 minute walk to the market. Via Martelli...full of shops and restaurants as well.
If you stay here, don't miss having lunch or a snack across the street at Lombardy.
Our room was on the small side, but well appointed. Self service coffee machine in the room...it was replaced by a commercial type machine in the lobby area during our stay. (free) Advertised when we booked as a B & B...they no longer serve breakfast. Instead, we were provided with coupons for a free coffee and 'brioche' at a nice coffee shop across the street.
Stefano...the owner...maps, advice, museum booking...he does it all. Highly recommded....
