Description: The "Grotta Guelfa" is a necessary stop for those who are passionate about good food and love the most authentic dishes. They are dishes that remain tied to tradition and their territory but, at the same time, do not turn away from new tastes. Patrons can have their dinner in the cosy and small lounge or in the wide porch with air conditioning and lively decoration, accessible year-round. The restaurant is located near the old "Palagio dei Capitani di Parte Guelfa". From this corner of Florence, famous for its typical medieval structure, it is possible to start an amazing tour among the artistic beauties of the city.

“not only for tourists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

I could not think about of Florence without smiling remembering this restaurant, modest at first sight, hence the decent prices. It is close to Piazza della Signoria and the inside is very interesting also the food is awesome! You will not regret it! The waiters are young and very friendly, you will like them. I would go here again if I ever go back to Florence.

“Best eat in Italy so far”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

This was our fourth night in Italy, 1st in Florence. Having despaired of finding decent pasta (I know it's crazy we're in Italy), finally we found somewhere great. We stumbled upon La Grotta Guelfa in the rain, having spent 2 hours in the Ufizzi, desperate for food. What a joy. In the end two of us had risotto, and one pasta. We also had desert and a half bottle of Chianti Classico which was great value. We arrived early, and the staff were eating, but they welcomed us in and we were served very promptly. It quickly filled up with one other group of tourists and the remainder all appeared to be Italians (a good sign). The first place we ate that didn't charge a cover charge and the cheapest meal so far €62 - two courses, wine and coffee (for three). We may even go back on our last night. For anyone seeking Tuscan cuisine, all the traditional dishes were on the menu eg pasta with wild boar but as a vegetarian I did not try any of the traditional dishes!

“Quick and a stupendous lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

I requested that we would have to finish our lunch in half an hour from ordering to leaving the tip! It was one of the best meals we had in Italy and not at all hurried yet super quick. Ohhhh, I still remember the aubergine appetiser, the grilled prawns in the simple yet divine tomato sauce. We were tentative about our meals in Florence as we dont eat red meat and chicken dishes are not common. We were also told that its difficult to find good seafood in Florence.hiwere at La Grotta Geulfa we really found a great hotel. We went the next day for dinner and though we were not hungry we polished their fresh catch of the day- a local fish( sorry forgot the name of the fish). We also had the delicious Ribollita, the wholesome and filling soup. The service was exemplary and we felt really special when the waiter seved a mind blowing Panacotta- the Best desert we had in Italy.

“Great find. This is where the locals eat.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Great place with an outdoor seating area and an excitingly different menu. Food was great: Hunter's salad with goat cheese, wild boar sausage and mushrooms and insalata with ham, olives and mozzarella to start with. The mushroom soup was really different and very tasty as was the Veal tenderloin served on the bone Tuscan style (mini T-Bone)with a tomato and porcini mushroom sauce.
Prices are reasonable and good food takes time to prepare, so be ready to wait a few minutes.
Would eat here again.
