We were pleasantly surprised by this spot near the Duomo. It's a hybrid of an enoteca, bakery and deli with friendly service and a delicious lunch selection of focaccia and sandwiches. Jonathan, the multilingual server (and manager, I assume) who's mentioned in a number of reviews, gave a detailed description of the menu in his Boston English while mixing in praise for his Red Sox (and digs at the Yankees). This was certainly startling in the heart of Florence, but it made us tourists feel comfortable, especially given the fact that they seat other parties at your table in the small dining room.
We enjoyed the platter of assorted and simple sandwiches, paired with wines that Jonathan picked out himself according to our preferences. Along the way we also got detailed descriptions about the wines, the associated winery, how he prepares the perfect espresso, how others do not, and so on. His passion for and pride in the food and wine is hard to miss, and it creates a pleasing experience, even if it's just a quick lunch while sightseeing.
There are one or two tables outside but they probably require a lengthy wait. The dining room is cramped and, as noted above, keep in mind they put multiple parties at each table if necessary.
