“Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2007

Hotel San Luca was perfect with breathtaking views, very comfortable rooms and great location. I had a single room with a balcony. The view was to die for. Breakfast was very good. This hotel is right in the heart of Cortona. I hope to go back some day soon.

I just got back from a 10-day stay in Tuscany/Umbria and I'm already missing it!!! I would stay there again. The food, staff, and views were exceptional. The rooms are small but very clean. I would highly recommend it to anyone it's a great location and a very beautiful area.

  • Liked — The staff was exceptional
  • Disliked — I'm used to bigger rooms but in the scheme of things you get used to it.
  • Tips/Secrets — It's a beautiful location that shouldn't be missed

There aren't a lot of hotels in Cortona so if you're staying this is worth considering, but others in Cortona are cheaper than this. As for the booking info above on the pulldown menu, we actually showed up in town and started knocking in doors; this was the first one with a room available. If you reserve in advance you can get a great view of the countryside; we didn't, so we had a view of the hill about 3m away. But the patio in the hotel has an *awesome* view, and for 3E you get a big glass of wine to enjoy it with.

  • Liked — location and view
  • Disliked — cost
  • Tips/Secrets — reserve early, ask for room with a view

We just returned from a Duke University Tuscay Tour arranged by Alumni Holidays' International. AHI uses the Hotel San Luca as the base for this tour. The hotel was marvelous! Our food, provided by the hotel's famous restaurant Tonino, was outstanding. The staff was always courteous, helpful, and spoke English. The front desk clerk even provides walking maps to Bramasole, home of Frances Mayes, author of Under the Tuscan Sun. The rooms are small by US standards, but the expected size for Europe or Manhattan. The rooms smelled great and were spotless. The towels were thick and the soap abundant. Our view from the balcony of Room 62 was awesome. The hotel is upside down with guest rooms starting on floor 4. Rooms on 4 have better views than those on 5 or 6 (the bottom floor). The hotel's location off the main street of Cortona makes everything easy to walk to and Cortona was our favorite hill town in Tuscany. We had a Five Star experience.

This hotel has a great view of the valley, and an excellent location inside the wall. Rooms are clean and quiet. Parking a short walk away.

The Hotel San Luca was in a great location in the center of Cortona. The hotel is larger than expected, which made it a bit less personal. Staff was friendly and helpful though. Had to switch rooms due to smoke smell, but staff was accomodating. Rooms are small but functional. Bathrooms are even smaller, but also functional. AC and TV in rooms. Breakfast was very good and was included in price. Very good value.

I don't recommend this hotel at all. We had no hot water, the blankets smelled like mothballs and overall the hotel was not what we were expecting from the other reviews posted on this site. The view is the only thing that this place has going for it. The breakfast is also not worth it - dirty dishes and not substantial at all.
