“A wonderful short break in a wonderful hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

We booked for three nights in January, and were so glad we did. The hotel is run by Paoula and her family, and is right in the centre of Cortona, a few minutes walk from the main square.

Paoula could not have been more friendly or helpful from the second we arrived.

Our room was very spacious and spotless. The breakfast was buffet style,( including freshly baked cakes) and Paoula's mother was exceedly friendly and attentive!
The evening meal we had at the hotel was excellent, the best we had in our seven day trip to Italy. If I was to return to Cortona I would certainly stay here, and would have no hesitation in recommending it to family and friends.

Dolce Maria has a really great location in Cortona. We were the only one's that were spending that particular night in the Bed and Breakfast. Our room was very large with a passage way that lead to a roof top deck. What a great view. We were very comfortable and the bathroom was a really nice size. Breakfast was your standard. We were happy to have found such a nice family run place...very warm and inviting.

My Mom and I stayed here in November, 2012 and absolutely loved it!! Paola is an amazing inn owner who goes out of her way to make her guests comfortable and happy! She drove me down to the car to get my mom and luggage when we first arrived and took us back down when we left. Her mother is very friendly and caring also.
The rooms are very spacious and all are decorated with antiques and are very lovely and clean.
The restaurant is on the bottom floor and the food is outstanding!

I would recommend Dulce Maria to everyone travelling around Cortona and most definitely would stay there again.

The highest praise for any trip location is that I would return and that I would, without hesitation; recommend it to family and friends. Both are certainly true for this lovely B&B in the charming town of Cortona. Paoula, family, and staff were so warm, attentive, genuine and friendly. My husband and I felt like we were members of her family. We did not want to leave! Ever!
Our room was large and had a private narrow, winding staircase to a little terrace on the rooftop. It was the perfect spot for a glass of wine and to soak in the wonderful, captivating view.
Every morning, we had a nice breakfast of fresh fruits, bread, cheeses, and coffee. Paoula was always there to greet us and provide me with my daily Italian lesson. She was very patient and made my attempts to learn fun! Of course, our private half day cooking class was incredible. Paoula drove us to the various markets, where we met her friends and selected all the fresh ingredients for the meal. Hours later, after much laughter with family and kitchen staff, we completed our feast of fresh soup, ravioli, chops, bread and more. Needless to say, a walk to the nearby main square to browse the local shops was needed!
In addition, the B&B’s restaurant was superb… a quaint atmosphere, attentive staff, fresh local cuisine, and a large selection of wines made it our dining location for all three nights.
Our three days at this rustically elegant 14th to 16th century B & B was my favorite experience of an 11 day trip. I hope to return!

Wonderful, large, high-ceiling 14th-century room with modern bathroom; delicious breakfast, with hostesses (including the mother of the warm and exuberant proprietor Paola) urging us to eat our fill; amazingly delicious restaurant, also owned by Paola, right there on a rainy day (be sure to make reservations). In fact, we found the vegetarian offerings here and in Cortona restaurants generally much more interesting than elsewhere in Italy. Paola also ferried our luggage to and from the parking lot. Cortona had much of interest itself, and the surrounding areas were gorgeous. I could not recommend this hotel more highly!

Room Tip: I'm guessing that the rooms that are highest up in the building have amazing views.

My wife and I stayed at Dolce Maria for 3 nights following the end of our group tour in Italy. It was a terrific choice for a relaxing stay after the more hectic schedule in Florence and Rome. Paola welcomed us and treated us more like family than as customers. The decor was pleasant and the atmosphere was one of relaxation. Paola's mother, a lovely lady, joined her to help serve breakfast. It is a small staff, but they are friendly and helpful. Cortona is relatively small and the central location of the B&B made visits to the Eutruscan Museum and other sights an easy walk. I'd go back there in a heartbeat. Our room overlooked the courtyard of the restaurant and, although it was noisy during dinner, all was quiet by 10 p.m.

We stayed here in August just for one night before we moved on to our next destination farm stay. I fell in love with this charming and full of character b&b. The service was warm , Paula ( I hope I spelt her name correctly) , her mom ,such a divine small lady and the staffs were unassuming and helpful though they don't speak much English. I felt like a visitor to their home . Not forgetting to mention the breakfast was just awesome even though there's not much of varieties, but this is how it is in a typical Italian b& b. We had a huge room that has a tiny narrow staircase that lead to the rooftop. We had a great moment of witnessing the Tuscan sunset from the rooftop with the wind blowing away the summer heat .
