“Comfort and style in a stunning countryside setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

My husband and I recently spent a really special long week-end at Villa di Piazzano. The whole experience was well above our expectations: elegant and comfortable accommodation, extremely professional but also warm hospitality, amazing attention to detail, delicious food and dreamlike views over the Tuscan countryside... The perfect oasis to recharge your batteries in true style! We also appreciated a lot all the useful suggestions by the owner to explore the beautiful surrounding area like real locals, off the beaten track... The few days we spent were truly restorative and romantic, and we know the Villa will still be as awesome the next time we visit! Thank you!

We had our honeymoon here on the 31st August 2012. We stayed in the newly renovated rooms in the grounds for 3 nights. It rained, leaked through the bathroom ceiling of our adjoining room twice. We requested towels after the second leak but did not receive any so our guests couldn't have a shower. Our honeymoon night was spent mostly mopping up water not very romantic! The hotel only made an apology because our wedding coordinator rang and complained for us. We were told by reception the rooms were newly renovated so it wasn't their fault. We should have received an apology when the first leak occurred and offered an alternative room or reduction in the bill. We do not normally complain but this was simply not dealt with appropriately during our stay and it was our honeymoon!!!

Dear Guest,

In recent years, Italy, like many other countries has been susceptible to extreme weather conditions. We have, for example, just experienced in southern Tuscany one of the worst accounts of flooding in recent history.

On the morning of your arrival, we had been hit by the first violent storm after a torrid summer. The winds which accompanied the storm caused damage to the roof of an annex, causing a leak in the bathroom of the newly refurbished room occupied by your young children and mother-in-law. By no means did we not feel responsible for the fact that they checked into a room to find a puddle of water on their bathroom floor but, as explained to you at the time, the damage caused to the roof had been beyond our control. A staff member came and dried the floor. Nevertheless, though the storm had subsided many hours before, some water did continue to drip in the bathroom even after our intervention and this was not a second leak but simply residual water from the morning storm. You may recall, however, that you expressly asked us not to re-enter the room a second time. Our Head Receptionist spoke to you on this occasion and apologized. No request was made for more towels, for which we would have been more than obliging.

We sent a maintenance team on the roof to repair the damage. On the only other occasion we saw you, when you stopped for drinks on our terrace, again our Head Receptionist spoke to you to advise you the roof had been repaired and to make sure everything was okay. You seemed happy and smiley, down-playing the event. She proceeded to offer you drinks on the house as a conciliatory gesture.

Having made this premise, I am sorry to now hear that you do not feel we handled this appropriately and somewhat exaggerated the account claiming you spent the night mopping floors and that the kids didn’t have towels to shower. We aim to handle issues quickly and effectively and, in this instance, sincerely thought we had carried out all the right actions, though I understand this may defer from your view point. We are by no means infallible and hope to refine our operations further should any such event arise again in the future.

Kind regards,

Alessandra Wimpole

Perfect place to stay while visiting the region. The building is impressive, the restaurant has great food and the staff is very helpful. Would definitely go back and see it during the summer! If arriving at night, make sure you know how to get there though (the new apple maps doesn't help at all).

This is one of those posts that I’m reluctant to write because I don’t want to cause any overcrowding of our home away from home in Tuscany. We have stayed at the vill several times over the last 6 years. The Villa although throughly modern still keeps it’s old world charm. Alessandra and Franco’s staff are friendly and professional. They are like having family in Tuscany. We in fact met one of our best friends because of her employ at the Villa. She has since moved on to a better opportunity however she and her husband are still our dearest friends. The Villa is located in the country side a few miles from Cortona. There are many great local restaurants around the area surrounding Cortona as well as in town. The Villa also features a very nice restaurant that has an outstanding wine list. We always like to enjoy dinner our first day of arrival at the Villa so we don’t have to go far after a long day of traveling. On our most recent visit Lori really enjoyed a cooking class with the new Chef Gabriela. I really enjoyed the lunch on the patio after the class.

Room Tip: We have stayed in several different rooms all have their own charm and you can't go wrong.

you'll find yourself very lucky to have a chance to stay at villa di piazzano. the villa and surrounding property are beautiful. rooms are wonderfully decorated, very spacious and clean with modern bathrooms and fantastic views. the villa was restored about 10 years ago to very high standards. its so lovely! the owner and staff are very gracious and welcoming and always willing to give directions, make recommendations. it is obvious they take great pride in their hotel. we enjoyed dinner in the restaurant two nights. they serve freshly made, delicious tuscan food and the presentation is quite impressive. villa di piazzano is a short 10 minute drive into cortona and centrally located to many hill towns of tuscany and umbria. stay here! you will be glad you did. its a gem and a great value!!! this hotel has everything you are looking for (and more) in your tuscan vacation.

First of all this villa is not in Cortona well not in the town of Cortona but the town of Pergo. It is incredibly beautiful and would be an ideal spot for a honeymoon, or romantic getaway. It is gorgeous We spent a day just relaxing there after two weeks all over Italy. The rooms are gorgeous, the grounds are charming, the staff is wonderful. Francesca, a manager and all around major helper is an absolute doll. The negative if any is that the dinner we had was not great, and it is about 10 minutes from Cortona. It is definitely upscale and in a way can be viewed as pretentious. But all in all a very memorable stay.

Room Tip: Stay in the main part of the hotel. Loved our top floor queen sized room. Just perfect

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for taking the time to give your personal account of your stay at Villa di Piazzano. I would just like to clarify what you state in regards to our location. Pergo is not a town, but comes under the municipality of Cortona. The fact that we are not in Cortona proper is mentioned in all the websites on internet, but I agree that when travelling some degree of distraction could result in an oversight of the exact location. Normally the short drive into town is not a problem for both guests with their own cars and those using taxis. Needless to say, if a guest is expecting to walk out and find himself in the middle of town then this is definitely not the right location. But being outside the town also has its advantages. We are surrounded by incredibly beautiful countryside. Our guests often tell us that the drive down our ancient cypress tree road is something quite spectacular. When you arrive at the hotel, parking is not a problem. The estate is surrounded by beautiful and extensive gardens, has a panoramic terrace and a very nice pool (still open at the end of October thanks to the weather), all included in the room rate. In the mornings one enjoys the chirping of birds as opposed to street noise. So the choice of location really just depends on one’s priorities. We offer a very detailed map on our website, as well as GPS coordinates, and welcome all future guests to view this information prior to travelling. I am also sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the dinner but do not provide any further information on this point. I welcome you to write to me directly should you have any suggestions as to how we can improve.

Kind regards,

Alessandra Wimpole

Beautiful old estate of a Cardinal. Not far from Cortona and centrally located. The room was big, king sized bed, large bathroom. Stayed in the Cardinale Suite. Breakfast was bountiful. Had dinner there two nights. Chef - Gabriella prepared an excellent and varied menu. Great wine list. We will definitely stay there again. Spent 2 nights, should have stayed 3.

Room Tip: Cardinale Suite.
