Twelve of us rented this property for a week in September, 2012. Based on the previous trip advisor ranking and pictures of the villa, we had high expectations of this villa. Although this villa has a lot going for it, charming building, scenic location, and lots of amenities, it suffers from lack of care and attention to the renters. Some of these (lack of screens in a very buggy climate) are common to other rentals, most are not. When we arrived, an hour before the agreed on time, we arrived at a locked gate so that we had to park on the street for an hour. When we called the in-town agent, we were told that we were an hour early and would have to wait. One gate key for an automatically closed gate with a rental for 12 travelers in four cars doesn't cut it. Only two villa key sets for a 6 bedroom villa. Locks that don't completely work. Uncut grass. A algae-infested pool. Two flimsy bath towels (more like dish towels) per room for one week. Lack of complete kitchen amenities (like matches to light the gas stove). One or two of the rooms suffered from a urine smell emanating from the drains. These were the conditions that we encountered. As we prepaid for the villa, I withheld half of the damage deposit until some of the conditions were corrected (most weren't). And this was met with some resistance/argument. (OK, I didn't expect them to correct ancient plumbing issues in one week). Bottom line? I wouldn't rent here again. Our week was pleasant, but not what it could have been.
