La Romita Agriturismo is a quaint 4 bedroom B&B owned by a lovely couple, Alberto and his wife. It is nestled among acres of olive trees. It also has three 2 - 6 person cottages for rent within the property. The guests can enjoy a nice stroll through Alberto's extensive property of numerous fruit trees, potted plants/herbs/flowers and olive grove, or simply lounge by the outdoor pool surrounded by greenery with a gorgeous view of the rolling hills in the vicinity. The B&B is located in the heart of town and also has a small restaurant that serves its guest. The restaurant is opened for dinner only and serves delicious local Sienese cuisine that is prepared fresh daily by the wife. We stayed in La Romita for 5 nights/6days. Breakfast was served promptly every morning either outside on the patio with a terrific view of the extensive grounds and hills or inside in the restaurant, depending on the weather. Alberto was quite detail-oriented. The first couple of mornings we had 2 yoghurts for breakfast - one for each person. I suppose he noticed that one of us didn't like yoghurt so for the remaining of our stay, only one yoghurt was present at our breakfast table. We had dinner at their restaurant twice during our stay there. It serves a set 4 course meal (antipasto, primi, secondi, dolce) of whatever his wife felt like preparing for that particular day. I thoroughly enjoyed it because I'm pleasantly surprised every time the next course arrives :) There is a separate menu for men and women, something that Alberto decided to do. We had our best meals there during our entire stay in Italy. There's really no way to compare the meals we had in La Romita with any other food we had elsewhere because it's so localized and unique - it's not your typical Italian food of tomato sauce and pasta! Alberto's wife uses recipes that were passed down from generations and only unique to the region of Siena. I know because he let us read all about it during one of our dinner. Needless to say, the food was the best I ever had - fresh and delicious! The service was fantastic. When we wanted to check our E-mails, Alberto helped us get connected onto his Wi-Fi and we had free Internet connection during our entire stay there:) We loved our room. It was tastefully decorated with wrought iron furniture, a chandelier hanging from its high ceiling and numerous pictures and paintings adorned the walls. Our room had a large balcony with an amazing view of the olive groves and rolling hills. The room and bathroom were very clean. A cleaning lady came every morning at around 10 am to clean and replenish soap and shampoo. I'm not sure if our towels were changed daily. Alberto also provides quad tours where he takes his guests on the back roads through Tuscany for an extra cost. We didn't do the tour because we had a car and did day trips to the surrounding towns. If you visit in the fall, you get to watch them harvest the olives and make olive oil! Unfortunately we couldn't do that but Alberto did give us a tour of his olive oil press and we bought some organic oil from him. The best olive oil I have ever tasted! La Romita is located right across from the only bar in town, which is owned by Alberto's son. The bar comes alive every night, it's where practically everyone in the village hangs out. People come to enjoy a couple of drinks and to catch up with each other - it's like one big happy family coming together every night! The bar also serves a light supper if you're not interested in eating in the only 2 restaurants in town (La Romita and Da Roberto's). We enjoyed many meals in the bar, it's quick, delicious and inexpensive. The extent of the menu is anitipasto (pecorino cheese, various cured meats, grilled vegetables), salad, pizza, and pasta. The portions are very generous. Their antipasto is to die for, it was so flavourful! Delicious - I regretted not having ordering it sooner! We came to know Giancarlo (cousin who ran the bar) quite well because we frequented the bar daily. He is one of the most friendly, genuine and good-hearted person I met. At times I found it challenging to communicate him or Alberto due to our lack of the Italian language and their lack of English, but we managed through extensive body language. There's not much else to do in the town, unless you go hot-air ballooning with Robert and his crew. It was an experience of a lifetime - it was quite a treat to be able to see Tuscany from a whole new perspective. Definitely a must do!!! We really enjoyed our stay in La Romita, Montisi, it was the highlight of our Italy trip. It was exactly what we wanted - a quaint little town with cobblestone streets, potted plants placed on the window sills, stone cottages, friendly people and not swarmed with tourists - definitely an authentic Tuscany experience!!! :)
