“A lovely modern apartment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

A great modern apartment, we stayed for a week in August in the first floor apartment with garden and views to Etna and the coast and thoroughly recommend it.

There were a few 'teething problems' - the aircon needed gas so didn't work for the first couple of days, and the lack of small touches like bedside lights, and a coffee table in the living room, made the place feel a bit sparse and not very homely. Likewise the kitchen area was well appointed, but a single-serving coffee maker (in Italy!) and the lack of an oven made it feel like a few corners had been cut.

The positives far outweighed the negatives though - a friend of the owner kindly lent us her own beach towels for the week and was so friendly and genuinely wanted us to have a great stay, and the apartment itself is wonderfully designed, with fabulous views, free parking space and very handy for exploring Taormina and its beautiful surroundings. We were there for ferragosto and really enjoyed the celebrations in the local community and the nearby madonna della rocca church.

Room Tip: We loved dining out in the garden

We recently spent 1 week in apartment 2 at Villa Virginia. It has a lovely grassed terrace area with the most stunning views to Mount Etna and the coastline below. The apartment was excellent, very spacious with a well equiped kitchen and a garage for secure parking of the car off road. Its situated in a very quiet area, so no problem getting a good nights sleep !. however, it is located some distance above the main town of Taormina, so a good 15-20 minutes walk down / up a fairly steep flight of steps is required, unless you take the bus / taxi. There's a wonderful restaurant very close by - Ristorante Al Saraceno where we ate on 3 ocassions, and had the most wonderful meals - highly recommended.
Overall a very pleasant and relaxing stay at Villa Virginia.

Located above Taormina with fantastic uninterrupted views of both the town below and Mount Etna to the west, we would highly recommend this property. Our early morning walks up to the village above, Castelmola, for coffee provided even more impressive panoramic views of the Sicilian coastline. Access to and from the beaches below is walkable through a series of local laneways and steps through Taormina town providing plenty of stops for refreshments.
The apartment is generously proportioned and tastefully decorated with all you would require with covered parking below. The large west facing terrace accessed from the bedroom and living space is a huge asset that we used most evenings whilst enjoying the views and sun.
We look forward to returning in the near future.

The property itself is lovely. Very modern and spacious. We had the apartment with the sea / Mount Etna view, which was spectacular. Our balcony was enormous and could be accessed from the lounge and the bedroom.
Kitchen area was fine. It had everything you need. The bathroom was great and the bedroom was lovely, with a large and very comfortable bed.

Overall, our week at Villa Virginia was a perfect end to a long and wonderful honeymoon in Sicily.

Room Tip: Ask for the "Penthouse". It's worth the extra. I promise!!

We stayed at Villa Virginia for one marvellous week in August in apartment 2. Taormina is a special place with breathtaking views, a fantastic town centre and excellant bays with great facilities. This was my families first trip to Sicily and we struck gold with the town and the apartment.
Villa Virginia is a new apartment building with comfy beds, air con and fitted kitchen. All the rooms have large balconies with stunning views and there is secure parking which is rare in Taormina for all the rooms.
The location suited us as we like quiet nights and don't mind a bit of exercise walking to the town centre. There is a regular bus service and loads of taxi's but we quite enjoyed the 20 minute walk into town in the morning where we took the cable car down to the beaches and also walked into town each night to enjoy the many top quality restaurants and on one great night the Greek amphitheatre which is a must see for a concert.
We did cheat though and usually took taxi's back up the hill as it was either too hot or we were tried to try it. A good tip from us would be to visit one of the supermarkets early on to stock up with supplies and take a taxi back to unload.
Another great day out was visiting Etna. We drove ourselves to the cable car station which took under one hour from the apartment and then took the cable car up which was as close as we wanted to the smoking summit.
Lastly thanks to the owners and staff for looking after us so well - we will definatley come here again.

Room Tip: All rooms have balconies and great views either facing Mount Etna or the Italian mainland.

Villa Virginia has some wonderful apartments set on a hill above the main strip of Taormina. It is a wonderful setting because you get great views of the sea, and if your apartment faces the right way, of Mount Etna too. Our apartment faced the road which relatively quiet and had great views of the sea towards the Italian mainland and lovely views of Saracen castle and the beautiful church of Madonna del a Rocca. Each apartment has a balcony and we used ours most evenings sipping wine with the relaxing gorgeous views.

Location wise, the villa was perfect for us. We wanted to be within walking distance from the main shops and restaurants but far enough away to not be disturbed by it at night for peaceful rest. If you want to be in the heart of the action in Taormina, this may not be the best location for you as you do have to walk down many many steps for about 10-15 minutes to get there and the walk back up is about 20 minutes. Good for exercise though! There is a very useful garage beneath the apartments for those who want to drive.

The apartment itself was immaculate. It has an open plan kitchen and living space with air con. It didn't look like it had been used with the kitchen looking like it was brand new, as did the bathroom. You get all the basics and essentials for cooking and dining, but there isn't a dishwasher. If you plan to self-cater, be warned that there is no mini-supermarket of any sort immediately nearby, you need to go down to Taormina for the mini market. That said the restaurants in Taormina are fantastic, especially for seafood - so we didn't self-cater too much! The bedroom has a clean and comfortable double bed, with a large wardrobe and the essential air con unit.

There is a great restaurant called Al Saraceno just a couple of minutes walk from the apartment. It is almost worth staying at Villa Virginia just to be close to this little gem. It does great seafood, and if you go to the terrace you get the best views of the bay of Naxos and Mount Etna - simply breathtaking. It was also the only restaurant in Sicily we found to do great desserts!

Teresa is the manager of the Villa and she was on hand to sort any problems out. She greeted us with a warm welcome even though our flight was delayed and we got to the apartment late at night.

I would very much recommend Villa Virginia for couples. It is great value for such wonderful views and lovely location. I would definitely return to Villa Virginia if I went back to Taormina for another holidy.

Room Tip: The top floor apartment 4 is meant to be the best room with views over Mt.Etna and sweeping bay view...
