“Villa Carlotta's Executive Chef Is Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

My wife and I received a warm welcome when we arrived at Villa Carlotta’s beautiful rooftop restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. Tables were set with fine linen, soft music in the background, and a phenomenal sea view. My wife squeezed my hand as we entered the restaurant and gave me a dreamy look of approval. I thought, wow, it doesn’t get any better than this. Ah, but it did!

Loris, our fabulous waiter, greeted us with a smile and offered his congratulations with two complementary glasses of prosecco. What a nice surprise! An excellent Etna wine list was offered and we chose a Planeta wine - sensuous and seductive.

Our candlelit table overlooked the spectacular Mediterranean Sea and Mount Etna. This put us in the mood for a romantic dinner.

Chef David Costa came to our table to introduce himself. He enthusiastically described his specialties and how they are created with the best local organic products. We were so impressed with his passion for food that we couldn’t wait for our dinners.

When our meals arrived, the aroma and presentation made our taste buds do the Macarena - what a treat. After dinner, we had a hard time deciding which dessert to try - cannoli, cassata siciliana, or tiramisu – all created by Salvatore, their phenomenal pastry chef.

From beginning to end, our meals were better than we could possibly imagine. This was by far the most memorable dinner that we enjoyed in Taormina. Chef David delivered a culinary masterpiece. Bravo!

This is my first review on this website. Just couldn't resist to write about our wonderful vacation at the Hotel Villa Carlotta. We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary and spend 7 wonderful days in Taormina. From the moment we entered the hotel it was obvious that we've made a right choice. We arrived pretty late and what a surprise was waiting for us in our room! The whole room was in rose petals like on honeymoon and a bottle of rose brut champagne was ready for us. What a great way they greet their guests!!! And they also offered us a complimentary dinner to celebrate our anniversary at their wonderful restaurant on the terrace, which was really delicious and romantic.
The room was spacious with 2 standing balconies overlooking the sea. It was comfortable, clean and nice decorated.
The breakfast was just amazing! Maybe one of the best breakfast we've ever had (definitely the best caponata in my life). Big choice of food, everything was fresh and every day you can find something new.
Pool area is really good. It's small, but really nice if you want to have a quite relaxing time. There's a bar where you can order drinks and food.
But the gem of this hotel is their staff and outstanding service. Without this wonderful team our vacation wouldn't have been so good! Simone, Olga and Nathalie were always welcoming, nice and helpful. We had thousands of questions every day about excursion, where to go, what to see, where to eat etc. and they were always patient and gave us the best options and advices. If to tell the truth they just made our vacation! I don't have enough words to express how we're grateful! Big big thank you to everybody who work at Villa Carlotta, especially Simone, Olga, Nathalie, Marco and Alberto. We definitely will be back!

My husband and I have just returned from a one week holiday at Villa Carlotta to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We chose to stay in Apartment three, just a very short walk from the main hotel.

From the moment we arrived we was warmly greeted and made to feel very welcome in this lovely hotel.

There is a lovely garden and pool area to relax, sunbath or just sample great Sicilian wine and food. Villa Carlotta is only a very short walk away from the main town where you will find many restaurants , shops etc.

We certainly wasn't disappointed with our stay!. Beautiful. . Tasteful decor, fully equipped kitchen area should you decide to use it, large living area and a very big terrace with sun lounges, table and chairs. We had the privacy of an apartment but with the facilities of the hotels own amenities.

We chose one scheduled excursion to Etna and two private tours to Siracusa and Savoca which the hotel arranged for us. A big thank you to the lovely Andrea, who was our guide and chauffeur on both trips. We really enjoyed our days out.

We had breakfast every morning on the terrace of the main hotel. There was so much choice and all delicious. This was further complimented by a fabulous evening meal in the hotel one night by their great chef!

Now let me explain why we love this hotel. . . I have personally worked with the general public for over 25 years and would like to think I know what it takes to get the balance right in pleasing the mass. This hotel is in a league of its own. Run in a professional manner with staff who are very friendly, discreet, kind and considerate. Nothing was ever to much trouble. We had great times and many laughs with the members of staff. It's great to find hotels where the balance of professionalism, charm, character and interaction with their guests is just perfect.

My husband and I would like to say a huge thanks to all the lovely people for making our holiday such a memorable experience - not forgetting of course everyone who worked just as hard behind the scenes who we didn't meet!. . . Thank you

We will see you all again soon :-))

Everywhere you look Villa Carlotta has old world charm mixed with new style appeal. There is outstanding attention to detail with both comfort and design. The staff is helpful and welcoming, going above and beyond to assist. The pictures on the website are completely accurate. The rooftop terrace has fabulous views and the breakfast served there is completely outstanding with more choice of fresh foods than I have ever experienced.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk to everything central (though close to public gardens) which allows for a more peaceful and picturesque experience. A day at a beach club was arranged immediately with every need provided for. Definitely wishing to return!

Room Tip: We stayed in a sea view junior suite on the third floor which was king sized with a fabulous view...

The owner of this hotel, Mr Quartucci, and his lovely team of staff really understand what service is about. Friendly, helpful but also really professional. From the moment we walked through the door, we were made to feel like honoured guests. The hotel is charming, the décor traditional, spotlessly clean, a lovely rooftop restaurant with views to rival the best in the world (breakfast overlooking several bays of the seaside, plus Mount Etna in the background). Great breakfast. Our room was a junior suite, great views again, very comfortable bed - but just one suggestion: a shaving/makeup mirror would have been helpful for those of us with vision less sharp than in our younger days.

Lovely gardens and a small pool (we were told the owner would have liked to enlarge the pool, but since the property is built over an historic site - there are even Roman catacombs enclosed in the hotel site - the authorities have not allowed any extension to the pool). Free WiFi, although a bit slow at times, no doubt due to local bandwith capacity issues.

If you like the beach, and long swims (which I do) the hotel have an arrangement with a very nice local beach club: for a modest fee, you can have a private transfer by car to the beach, use of sun-loungers & sunshade all day, excellent restaurant, showers. And I was able to swim in the sea to my heart's content. Note that the hotel is around several hundred meters above sea level, so the walk down is OK, but not so great going back up again.

Thank you Riccardo, Nathalie, Olga, Simona and all the staff. (I did have a naughty thought: You are all SO good and SO professional that you could, in your spare time, set up and run a training school for hotel staff to train and inspire those many hundreds of poor and mediocre hotel staff we all come across in our travels. That would improve the lot of travellers everywhere!)

Dear Mr Andrew,
it was great to read such beautiful review, thank you for the praises which were highly appreciated.
We believe that luxury does not mean only a well appointed room, a stunning view and a good restaurant but also a very attentive and personal service as you pointed out.
We have trained our staff to work with professionalism and "know how" but also we taught them to love their job which turns out with genuine smiles and great passion at work.
I am looking forward to see you again next spring as promised.
Warmest regards from myself and the whole Hotel Villa Carlotta staff

From the moment we arrived in the hotel, we figured we would have a great experience. Everyone who works at Villa Carlotta is so friendly and eager to help that we were really amazed.
We got one of the simpliest rooms and it worked just fine - good quality bed/ linen, nice bathroom and a great view.
Breakfast was just the best we ever had. So many different sicilian specialities that it was hard to choose what to pick!
I couldn't think of a better place to spend a few days in Taormina.

Just returned from a 10-day trip to Sicily, we spend 5 nights at The Hotel Villa Carlotta and it was perfect! From the minute we arrived Simone was welcoming and I felt as though we already knew her. It was like we were family returning home. Prior to arriving, I arranged for dinner on the terrace and a birthday cake for our daughter. Simone was prepared for every detail upon our arrival. The entire staff at Villa Carlotta was warm and welcoming. The terrace restaurant is excellent and Davida the head Chef is awesome. He makes his rounds to the guests inquiring about the food, which was superb!

The location of the hotel is excellent, peace and tranquility and the rooms are gorgeous. We had a junior suite with a terrace, well worth it! The views are magnificent! I can't say enough about this hotel! ... from the gorgeous rooms, to the food and the location. But, I truly believe the staff make this an extraordinarily special place.
