“Excellent place to stay....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

We travelled to Taormina in Sept 2012. Great place to visit! Our hotel was fantastic. The view was amazing. The staff was very friendly! We would like to say thank you to the following people that made our stay very pleasant. Ana Lisa and Fabio at the front desk got us an excellent room. Francesco was always very pleasant! Always got us a table overlooking the sea at breakfast.

Stay at Hotel Monte Tauro in October for two nights and had a very restful time. The hotel was quite and clean and we received very good service throughout our stay. The room was clean and very comfortable. The hotel itself would not be out of place in a James Bond film as it is built onto the cliffs, the rooms have lovely terraces overlooking a fantastic pool. Its location could not be better with the town centre a few minutes walk uphill and beautiful views over Etna and the Med. The only thing to say negative was that arriving (very late at night) we could not believe that the hotel was where we were being directed to - down a very steep drive!! Not one for the faint hearted.

We stayed at the Monte Tauro Hotel for 3 nights from 7 September. If the hotel is well located in the centre of Taormina, there is an amazing ramp for the garage. On our arrival, we could not find anybody to assist us in driving our vehicle down to reach the garage. Then, when we finally had our car parked, we were very disappointed with the room: we were given a room a the far left hand of the hotel on the second floor and, as we complained, we were moved to the first floor in a room just above the swimming pool. As we still complained, we were moved on the fith floor the night after. The staff at the reception were not particularly friendly with us while dealing with our dissatisfaction and we had to request the assistance of our travel agency to get satisfaction. But still, the manager at reception said the hotel was full: however, on the first day, we checked in at the beginning of the afternoon. In the evening, we saw people checking in for standard room.
In addition, I would also mention the fact that furniture in the room is old and unpretty. On the last day of our stay we needed to leave at 7:30 for the airport. Breakfast is from 7 in the the morning and they do cook fresh eggs. We were at breakfast at 7 this last day but nobody wanted to cook eggs. Then we asked for check out at reception and they tried to charge us EURO 10 for a bottle of water from the mini bar which we did not have. Finally, they asked us for a VAT number. We said we did not have any...To conclude on this hotel, I would say that its only asset is its location. Otherwise, it is not pratical if you drive a rental car because of the garage and traffic in the city centre, furniture and bulding unpretty and old (not charming), service at reception is poor, breakfast: cakes are dry, no fresh fruits and egg service inexistant at the time we requested it.

An excellent position overlooking the sea with breathtaking views of the bay and Mount Etna. The hotel is clean and modern with car parking on site. The pedestrianised town centre is a short climb above the hotel with a wonderful array of eating places and shops on the way up - 5 to 10 minutes walk depending on your fitness. The hotel is adjacent to the spectacular public gardens which are well laid out and peaceful - well worth a visit and also close to the Amphitheatre. Book a room witha private terrace - well worth the extra. Reception is on the top floor and a glass lift takes you down to your floor level the terraces and pool area. Great breakfast.

My wife and I visited this hotel in September 2012, the journey from Catania was very easy, the taxi dropped us off at the top of the ramp, and the concierge collected us in the hotel bus foe the short (but steep) trip to the hotel .

Check-in was very efficient, but I was a little disappointed with the room as it was in a lower floor, and with limited views. I asked for an alternative, none available that evening (it was 9pm) but first thing the next day we were moved up a floor but with great views over the bay

The room was spotlessly clean, big enough and the bed very comfortable .

Our rate included breakfast, the buffet was a mix of hot and cold fare, all very good.

The location is excellent as we only had to walk 5 minutes to be at Corso Umberto - the main street in the town

After moving rooms, we went to the pool, which was quiet, the loungers very comfortable, the pool warm and clean, the views spectacular

But the best aspect of the hotel is the staff - Reception were always polite and happy to help; the breakfast team were very efficient and the manager always took time to talk, and invariably had a funny story to tell

The star of the show was the pool attendant - every morning we were greeted with a smile, and a chat about our plans for the day. When we wen to the bar for a drink we came back to find our loungers had be turned to face the sun!

All in all a most enjoyable holiday in an excellent hotel

Room Tip: Higher rooms on the right side ofthe building as you face the sea in reception have the best views

I have been coming to this hotel for the past 9 years and it's my all time favourite destination. The staff are so helpful and the accomodation comfortble. The only down side is that it's not eaily accessible if you are not fit as it is built into the cliff face.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms t this hotel. They all face the sea. Very panoramic.
