Stayed for our first anniversary. We requested transfer from the airport - which was arranged without difficulty and confirmed via email (70 euros) - the driver was waiting with name board despite the fact we were 25 mins late (baggage handlers!!!!!). On arrival - a bottle of prosecco was waiting on ice - a present for our anniversay - with a fresh fruit basket in the fridge. Room was very clean with plenty of space - we had a sea view junior suite ( 1 of 5) with a nice terrace. Views good - but was overlooked by neighboring terraces - including the elderly nudists next door!. Had nice - indoor area / conservatory with table and chairs - for luggage overspill and drinks either in the evening after dinner - or for a break from the oppressive heat. Bathroom clean and functional with power shower which was great - lots of hot water.
The 2 best bits about the hotel were it's fantastic location - 2 minutes from the main street through their own amazing botanical gardens - complete with terrapins who sunbathe all afternoon, much to my husbands great delight. The other great feature was the breakfast - served on the communal terrace downstairs - with amazing views, coffee, granita, fresh fruit, pastries, bread, brioche - as well as cheese/ meat/ eggs/ cereal and pretty much anything else you could want - served to the table rather than buffet style - really impressive and really good.
Reception staff rather unfriendly (so we didn't mention the nudists!) but extremely courteous and professional. Would not hesitate to recommend - flashers aside!

  • Liked — location, breakfast and terrapins!
  • Disliked — terrace overlooked!

We enjoy traveling without a definite itinerary and so when we set out for Taormina without a hotel reservation, we were warned that everything would be full. We couldn't have been luckier to happen upon the Villa Shuler. Villa Shuler is a family-run hotel with the most exceptional service we've encountered. Up with and even exceeding some very expensive places we've stayed. They were able to accommodate our stay by moving us from one room to another for the second day (at a slightly higher rate but still reasonable) and, we were so taken with the place that we stayed yet another day. The rooms were spacious, impeccably clean, the baths well appointed. Each of our rooms had a small balcony with views over the sea. The staff is very friendly and helpful with recommendations and information and speak English perfectly - among many other languages, we suspect. A very nice breakfast with many selections is served on large terrace overlooking the sea. One morning during our stay, a couple celebrated a birthday with champagne and a cake for breakfast - it was a charming way to begin the day. After a day's touring, we had cocktails there as well. They also have a restaurant, however we didn't eat there, prefering to wander in the evening. The evening before we left for an early tour of Mt. Etna, they arranged for a proper breakfast to be served to us at 6 am. On our last day, after checking out, we left our bags and car and spent the day at the beach. When we returned to gather our bags, we were offered a special bathroom where we could shower and change. It was outfitted with hair dryer, fluffy towels, shampoo, bath gel. We were in heaven to be traveling to our next destination much more refreshed than we had expected to be. They simply think of everything to accommodate their guests. Most of our contact at the front desk was with Julia, Katya and Daniel and a very delightful young man named Alejandro. Villa Shuler is the best value for location, service, and accommodation that we encountered. However, we suggest you don't leave it to chance as we did, but rather book in advance. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Taormina.

Stayed 4 nights in Taormina at Villa Schuler. A wonderful place that was more than we could have expected. The staff were very helpful and gracious, the room was standard but clearly above standard with views that that were majical. WeI'd return over and over again. PS the breakfasts spoiled us for the rest of the trip.

Stayed here with my partner during a writing assignment for a magazine. Stayed at 2 other 3 star hotels during the same visit. This was by far the best hotel we tried in taormina. You will not be disappointed.

My sister and I stayed here for 6 nights in July/August 07. We were in Taormina for a family wedding, and a number of guests stayed at this wonderful hotel. Being part of a group, the hotel staff were particularly obliging when it came to arranging a larger table for breakfast, and for evening get-togethers . Our room was a junior sunrise suite on the top floor with lovely sun terrace providing spectacular views over the bay. Access to the main (pedestrian only) street was throught the cool and shady back garden (with turtles in the pond) and then up a flight of stairs. A large variety of nearby restaurants meant we didn't have to venture far to sample true Sicilian style delicacies. Breakfast at Villa Schuler was delicious - fresh, excellent variety (we sampled a different course for each of the 6 days) and more than enough extras of breads, fruits etc. I would happily recommend this hotel.
