“No elevator....very loud from doors banging, people climbing stairs...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

So I booked the hotel reading good reviews from this site. I was not aware that the hotel did NOT have an elevator. When I checked in, we were offered for a room with view/balcony for 20 euros additional a night....it was on the top (5th) floor, without elevator, and we took the upgrade anyway. But being on the top floor, climbing up and down the stairs is one thing, but at night, I heard other guests banging doors into their floor, very loud noise almost shocking. I also heard other guests talking loud, climbing up the stairs at late night, so it really disturbed my sleep. I felt that the so much good reviews I read somehow never mentioned that, not sure if I was just being unlucky, but I stayed for 3 nights and first night, I think we were the only guest, so I heard nothing, but for the 2nd and 3rd nights, noise coming from stairs and door banging were just so much to take, I was just ready to leave the hotel. But, Taormina is such a beautiful town, I would try to stay at the hotel on the Corso Umberto next time or at least within the historical district....

Taormina can be an expensive town so we found this hotel very comfortable and a good value option for 5 nights. We had two different rooms on our stay as we booked late and only had a sea view for 3 nights but both were nice and spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff here are very friendly and helped us organise a tour to the islands along with beach days etc. They also had breakfast for us early one morning we were going to the islands. The beakfast area was a nice terraced garden and breakfast was pretty good with cakes every morning (dangerous for the waistline) and good coffee. Overall good value in a good location just outside of the main town and beside the bus station.

Apart from the name which doesn't remind too much of Sicily, it is a great hotel to stay in Taormina. It is very simple with an excellent location, close to the city center and to the cable car that takes you to Isola Bella and other beaches. The staff was very cordial and welcomed us warmly still remaining very professional. The rooms were always clean and tidy.
Breakfast was good in variety and in quantity. They also offered free beach towels and a free service to take you to the beach.

Pensione Svizzera was a delightful part of our 25th wedding anniversary trip. Warm welcome, and a standout breakfast in a light-filled conservatory style breakfast room. Also loved the afternoon teas laid on each day, great to come "home" to after wearing ourselves out wandering the streets of Taormina. Staff helpfully researched the best way to do the tiny Circumetnea train trip around Mt Etna and cheerfully tried to chase down luggage lost in transit from Berlin (it turned up eventually, in Siracusa). More warm and romantic than glitzy and flash, which is what makes it special.

Stayed here for 6 nights, when the temparature was ideal. The hotel is right near the north end of the main street of Taormina but offers a peaceful haven from the hustle and bustle of this popular town. The hotel itself is clen and tiy and typical of an old style hotel in Italy. Rooms are sufficiently spacious, clean and have en-suite facility. It was exactly what we wanted and although we had no balcony on the third floor we had a tremendous view along the coast. Breakfasts were very good and they do afternoon tea and nibbles at 4 o clock which seemed to attract Brits and all nationalities. Close to good restaurants and all town sites and amenities. Those who want large rooms overlooking the beach must go elswhere and there is no lift in the hotel but we got used to this quickly and it helps keep the pounds off. If you want a quality hotel at reasonable price near to the centre (easy walking) then this will do you fine.

Room Tip: Some lower floor rooms have balconies. Those who are unfit may want lower floors as the hotel has n...

Seeing the photos from summer, made in Taormina, I have found, with unpleasant surprise, that I failed to write a review of the most beautiful place in our trip in Sicily. Hotel La Pensione Svizzera!
I don't think this pink sleek villas lacks something! Location is great (3 minutes walk to bus station, 5 minutes walk to cable car and less than 10 minutes walk up to the entrance of the old town and Corso Umberto street), surrounded by the best restaurants in town (Incontro, Tratoria da Nino, etc), just across the street from a supermarket, with a fastastic value (830 euros/7 nights/3 persons/Breakfast included).
We stayed on the ground floor, room number 3. Perfectly clean, large for european standards, air conditioning, safe box, LCD TV with, do not exaggerate, hundreds of programs, a immaculate, bright bathroom equipped with free toiletries, towels changed daily, a large terrace with some breathtaking views of Mazzaro bay and many others that we leave to discover the future (very happy) clients of this gorgeous hotel!
The hotel is beautifully decorated and furnished, in a old sicilian style, extremely clean, confortable and quiet, but what's shocking us is, in particular, the inner courtyard. In a lush setting decor, mediterano-tropical, you can find the breakfast room (european, with anything you want and flawless service, made by miss Sonja), a reading room and, what we've worshipped from the first moment we arrived, an EXCEPTIONAL inner garden, with palm trees and other exotic plants, with couches and tables where, in the evening, after a hot and exhausting day, you can relax and serve a cup of coffee, something refreshing or a coktail. Look at the photos and convince yourselves!
And, for those 7 days to be perfect, there was needing one thing. The staff! Exceptional!!! I apologize if we skipped someone, but thank you from the heart to Maria, Luigi, Gavin and, not at least, to our favorite, the most affable and charming person known in Taormina- Matteo!
The hotel offers tickets to various events, including a bus shuttle transfer service from two locations for beach (Paradise Beach Club and Lido Tropicana), inclusive towels.
A very inspired choice, we don't have enough words to thank the entire staff for the comfort and for a special week spent in Taormina (we also appreciated the thank-you email we received after we got home).
And, almost to forgot, greetings to our new friends, two adorable cats- Opelle and Tigre!

My wife and I were at the Pensione for the third time over these last twelve months. Yet again, thanks to all the team at this hotel, our mini break in Taormina for the for New Year festivities turned out very well. The airport transfers to and from the hotel were expertly handled and the hotel staff also took the trouble to book us into an excellent restaurant for the New Year's Eve dinner. The service overall was impeccable as always.

All we can say to the staff is 'Siete stati tutti meravigliosi' We will definitely return. A fond 'Arrivederci'.

Room Tip: Don't be discouraged by the absence of elevators at the hotel. Members of staff are normally av...
