“One of the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

Our stay at the Hotel Villa Ducale was one of our best vacations. The view from our balcony and from the patio area is breathtakingly beautiful. The staff treats you like family and provides all the help you need to have the vacation you want. Free shuttles make it easy to move between the hilltop location and Taormina, and the quiet of the hilltop location is relaxing. Breakfasts, tea, happy hour and dinner make it possible to stay at the Villa and have all the food you need for a day, and the food is always beautifully presented and tasty. No wonder tour books rate this as one of the best hotels in Italy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony and a seaside view.

My boyfriend took me to Sicily for my birthday and this hotel was the perfect choice. The staff could not have been more enthusiastic or helpful, they really were a pleasure.
We ate in the restaurant on several nights as the food was just gorgeous.
We highly recommend this hotel as it feels like a lovely home. Thank you!

I wondered if all those fantastic reviews of Villa Ducale could be true-- and they are! We had a marvelous four-night stay at Villa Ducale. The only thing that would have improved it would have been more nights there-- we hated to leave! We were upgraded to a beautiful room with a balcony and a terrace, which gave us sweeping views of the sea and Mt. Etna-- spectacular! Breakfast on the terrace downstairs was perfect-- a great selection of cooked dishes, yogurts, fruits, cold cuts, baked goods and more-- all to be enjoyed with those amazing vistas. The hotel also provides complimentary tea with lovely cakes every afternoon and a wonderful "happy hour" with complimentary hors d'oeuvres early each evening. While the hotel doesn't have a full service restaurant, they do offer delicious, traditional Sicilian cooking every evening, served on the terrace in warm weather. There are only about nine tables so it is important to reserve if you'd like to dine at the hotel. We had dinner there twice during our stay and found the food and the setting superior to some of the meals we had in town. Every single staff person we encountered was warm, friendly and helpful--- a real pleasure to interact with. They are clearly dedicated to making sure every guest is well looked after. I saw some TripAdvisor posts that had complaints about the location being inconvenient, bus schedules infrequent, etc. I am not sure why there are complaints-- you can reserve a spot on the hotel shuttle bus going and returning to town, walk down the beautiful stone steps from Madonna della Rocca just a street above (there are 700+ but if you are fit, it is a lovely walk—please note, we did not climb them back up to the hotel!) use the city buses or take taxis. Part of the hotel's charm, in my opinion, is its location high above the town! If you want to be in the middle of things, check out their sister hotel-- Hotel Carlotta. Villa Ducale guests have access to that property's pool, since Villa Ducale doesn't have one. We spent a few lazy hours relaxing poolside-- very pleasant-- but were very happy with our hilltop hideaway. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: All but one room has sea views, terrace and/or balconies. Some are larger than others.

This hotel was recommended by my client in Rimini. When we arrived we were greeted by Paolo the manager and immediately escorted out to the patio area high atop the hill overlooking the city of Taormina. We were then greeted by Rosaria the owner who told us, "This is the house I grew up in. We want you to feel welcome and ask for anything you want. You are like family during your stay."The service was outstanding the entire time! They made us lunch the first day and when I asked if I could have eggplant parmesan that was on the breakfast buffet they made it fresh for us that night. They include desserts @ 4 pm and appetizers @ 6pm at no extra charge. They even have a free shuttle bus to town and the beach. They anticipated all of our needs up front -,what a concept! We never had to ask how to get anywhere or "guess" what things were included or what they cost. Paolo even helped us get a copy of my husband's fathers birth certificate by calling the office to tell them the Americans were headed over. This was a bit of a splurge for us (more than we normally pay for a hotel room) but we sprinkle those in on every trip – and the best choice we made on this trip by far! And one of the best places we have ever stayed!

Room Tip: We booked a sea view room and the hotel rooms are not all located in the same building so the view d...

Our three night stay at the Villa Ducale was unbelievable!!! When we arrived we were greeted with a glass of Prosecco and a map of the area. A staff member sat with us on the terrace overlooking Mt. Etna and the sea and showed us places of interest on the map along with great restaurants in town. The location is a 15 minute walk to town via steps which was never a problem for us. It actually gave us the advantage of seeing the area from a beautiful vantage point. They also offer a free shuttle to town and back several times a day. We only used it at night when we went into town for dinner. We were upgraded from a jr. suite to a suite because the jr. suite was not available the first night. However, we were thrilled, for the suite was absolutely huge, beautiful and had an enormous wrap-around terrace that overlooked the sea. Our room was restocked every day with two liter bottles of water that was complimentary. The room amenities were over the top from slippers to robes and exceptional toiletries. We have travelled extensively both in the United States and abroad and this is absolutely the best breakfast that we have had anywhere. They also offer complimentary tea with pastries at 4:00 and tapas with cocktails at 6:00! We had dinner one night on the terrace and it was delicious! We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Rosaria, who told us that the Villa Ducale is our home, and it truly was. The owners and staff were so friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay truly exceptional. Rosaria hosts cooking demonstrations for the hotel guests which we missed for we were leaving that day. In addition, she offered to drive us to the next town so that we wouldn't have to take a bus! Upon leaving she gave us a gift bag of local oregano, an apron and a lovely small bowl. I have never been to a hotel like this where I felt so much at home!!! I will definitely return to beautiful Taormina, if only to stay once more at the Villa Ducale!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the suite across the tiny street. It was extremely private and very quiet. It had a hu...

The friendly personal staff with respect from Villa Ducale, they make easily to communicate effectively in their natural gestures with us (We are Deaf) - They are willing to learn our daily sign language.

Hotel manager Paulo's extraordinary experience taught us the amazing history about Sicily. We are always pleased when he advises us the interesting excursions - (we don’t need go to the Tourist Information!)

When we wake up in the morning, we can see the amazing and beautiful view from our room – just perfect view! The service is the top! Everything is perfect.

If you are in Taormina, we highly recommend Villa Ducale – especially for Deaf and Hearing impaired people too.

We look forward to coming back again.

The Villa Ducale deserves every accolade as other guests have described so well. We enjoyed the first days of our honeymoon at the Villa Ducale, and we felt as if we were indeed welcome family guests, as the Villa was originally the family home of Rosaria, the proprietress.
You could hardly find a better view of the city, the ancient theatre, and Mt. Etna in the distance in all of Taormina.
We ate well everywhere in Sicily, but the breakfast served at the Villa Ducale stands out as the best breakfast, and some of the best food of our trip.
Our thanks to Rosaria and her staff for a truly enjoyable visit.
