“Great views, great staff, great room & good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2011

The staff were probably the best we met in our travels around Italy, the room was top notch with Jacuzzi, very spacious. It is down a long hill but it is worth the 5 minute walk. If arriving call them and they will come and collect you. Will definitely be back.

just returned from a 1 week stay. The hotel rooms are beautiful and individually decorated. Large balcony with a great view and a really stylish bathroom. Breakfast was served in a lovely light room on the top floor and there was a reasonable choice including plenty of fruit. Staff were all very friendly and helpful and really went out of their way to be welcoming.

We were glad we had taken our own kettle and tea making stuff - these seem rare in Italian hotels.

There is wifi in the lobby and a PC but the staff kindly lent us a cable so that we got wired access from our bedroom which was useful for keeping in touch.

However - do not underestimate the location of the hotel which is down a fairly lengthy VERY steep slope. We are fit and active fell walkers but the walk between the hotel and the town, or the hotel and the beach is significant. Because there is no bar or restaurant in the hotel, then at least a couple of trips out and back are needed each day. The hill up to the town needs good walking shoes (I had to take my sandals in a bag and change at the top of the hill.) It would be unsuitable for anyone whose mobility was at all limited.

The beach at Naxos was sandy and very nice indeed but was almost an hour's walk from the hotel, including a rough goat track.

Something we hadn't appreciated was that there is a real problem driving round and parking a hire car in Taormina - as it has such narrow streets and most parking is for locals only. The hotel does have underground parking but, because of the above mentioned slope, this is not for the faint hearted!

Room Tip: The rooms at the end of the corridor are larger - the one on the top floor would have the best view.

Just returned from a week at this fabulous small hotel. The room was immaculate with a fantastic view from the large balcony & side window. Breakfast was presented very nicely & the breakfast room also had stunning views. Staff very helpful & friendly. The only downside is the very, very steep walk up to town, although we were offered a lift up in the Fiat 'jeep' a few times which was great fun !!

Room Tip: All rooms would have good views although the 1st floor corner room may have had a view partially obs...

Just came back from the apartment gardenia which is below the hotel in a separate building next to the ancient and tiny church of Madonna delle Grazie. When I booked this holiday with Thompson, I assumed that the apartment would be of the same style and standard of this gorgeous boutique hotel. Sadly not and the apartment is more shabby than rustic. The bathroom needs a refit and the whole apartment is way too cluttered with old (and odd) bits of 'typcial Sicilian-style' furniture. The best bits about the apartment were the large terrace overlooking the bay of Gardini-Naxos, huge fridge and efficient air conditioning. There is a proper hob and cooker - though we didn't use this much except to make coffee for breakfast. The views come at a price. There is a very steep and near verticle climb from the hotel up into town. We had to ration ourselves to two trips up a day and it was almost as hard coming down as going up. The owner, Romano, was very friendly and helpful and did run us up there a few times but you need to factor the climb into your holiday plans. You certainly won't be running back for that bottle of wine you forgot! It also meant that I had to wear some very sensible walking sandals out for dinner and change up in town. If are super fit, it won't bother you that much but we aren't and arrived at the top soaked with sweat every time. This place has bags of charm but go well informed and don't be fooled by the photos of the hotel rooms and terraces as the apartment is nothing like that. We did have a cleaner every day but it was all a bit inconsistent. She seemed to change the towels every day when I was dying for some clean sheets (it was 33C) and these were never changed in our 7 day stay. Overall the holiday was good in parts but almost ruined by the crappy shower, vicious mosquitos and Himalayan ascent to get a meal or buy food.

Room Tip: Book the hotel if you sparkling new bathrooms.

Dear Mrs. Wins0me,

We would like once again to apologize for any inconvenience you had during your stay in one of our apartments. However, we would like also to highlight to the reviewers of your feedback that probably you have been looking for modern apartment and from that prospective obviously our apartments would not match to your expectations. The photos of our hotel rooms and apartments are provided on our official website and from there it is clearly seen that hotel is in modern style and fully equipped with modern furniture, where as the apartments are in “Sicilian style” and equipped with antic furniture, so we are not fooling anyone.

Regarding our room service, probably there was some misunderstanding due to luck of communication. However everyone will admit that you can face it once in a while even in very well-known hotels. Unfortunately, human errors are unavoidable and we apologize for that.

Taormina is located on the top of the hill overlooking Naxos Bay and Isola Bella. It is the geographical location of Taormina and our hotel as part of it. Everyone choosing to stay in Taormina is considering the geographical particularities and possibilities going up and down the hill. We admit that our hotel is not in a very heart of the city centre, but it is only in 300 meters away. We know that it might be for some our guests difficult to go up the hill and we willingly provide transfers each time our guests ask for it.

We believe that being 5 minutes away from the heart of city centre (with its active nightlife), having peace and exceptional view covers the inconvenience going up the hill 5 minutes.

Yours sincerely,

Dott. Romano Piazza

We traveled with another couple and found this beautiful charming hotel only 5 minutes from the center of town. Since the hotel is only 1 year old, the rooms were in immaculate shape and every nook and cranny was spotless!

The hotel has only 9 rooms and plenty of friendly staff-so we found the service to be the best ever! (And we have traveled the world!) We were on a first name basis with everyone: Pippo greeted us and parked our car for us. Daria gave us the biggest smile and warmest reception we have ever had! (And we can tell the difference between genuine concern and typical hotel protocol.) Pippo and Radita prepared a feast every morning for breakfast (free)! Even Mr. Piazza, the owner, gave us his personal attention! (We've never gotten that kind of attention at a Hilton or Four Seasons hotel!) If we lived a little closer, my wife and I would have invited them all to come and visit back at our place!

The hotel was a perfect complement to the adventure, history and beauty of Taormina itself-a place where we were able escape for a vacation after a long year of working hard. We are all in the human services professions ourselves and we were grateful to the staff for helping us to enjoy our time and our vacation in every way possible!

So we would like to offer a public "Thank you" to all of you at the Meridiana Hotel Taormina!

We stayed in one of the apartments and although they were not as luxurious as the hotel rooms, they had an old world Italian charm. We had an un-interrupted sea-view from the patio area, although there had been some building work in front of the hotel which had stopped for the last few months. I’m not sure how peaceful this location would be if the work started again / or once completed due to any additional traffic caused by it.

The hotel location was peaceful - it was a short, but steep up-hill climb to the town centre. You need to be at least slightly fit and able; I certainly would not recommend this to anyone with walking difficulties. The swimming pool should have been completed for summer 2011, disappointingly it was not. Work had started the previous winter and stopped for the summer, however it doesn’t look as though it will be that large once completed and I’m not sure that there would be much room for sun-beds. The lack of pool meant that we did go out more often, either to the beach which can either be reached by approximately a 20 minute climb down many steps (including a crumbling goat path – not for the faint hearted) and then another 15 minute walk to Giardini Naxos. Alternatively if you go through the town there are more steps down to the beach at Isola Bella (taking approximately 30 mins) or you can take the cable car down for a return price of 4 Euros.

The staff were friendly and very helpful, giving tips on places to visit as well as recommending great local restaurants. When we arrived, a jeep from the hotel came to meet us at the top of the and gave us a quick tour of the town before taking us back down the hill to our apartment, which was a nice touch.

Staying for 2 weeks, we found having an apartment really useful as there was a fridge, oven and hob which mean that we could cook the occasional meal. Taormina is expensive to eat out every evening. For the two of us on average we paid around £50-60 each time – this did usually include a litre carafe of local wine which ranged between £9-12, so not badly priced. There are many great restaurants close by – you won’t struggle for somewhere to eat. One of our favourites was Trattoria da Nino, where we ate outside and watched the world go by. Not an extensive menu, but great food and friendly service.

We would have no hesitation returning to Taormina again; it has to be one of the most beautiful towns we have visited. It is mainly a pedestrian area with beautiful buildings, churches and architecture. Certainly to be recommended. We would possibly consider returning to the Meridiana hotel/apartments once the swimming pool is completed and are sure that the building work below the apartments has been completed with no detrimental effect to the peace and views.

I was looking for small boutique hotel in Taormina, and it turned out to be the perfect place for me. Hospitality and the care from the first seconds are just impressive.

The hotel is located in a very quiet area, at the same time only 5 min walk from city center. It is brand new hotel of two floors. There are only 10 rooms, all the rooms have a private terrace with the spectacular sea views. Take a virtual tour on the internet page of the hotel to get impression about the hotel, but believe me the hotel is even better than it is on the pictures.

If you are traveling with family, there are two mini apartments available with seperate entrance from the hotel. The apartments have spectacular sea views as well.

The staff are very friendly with genuine care. You can get very good tips and advices where to go and what to see. I had to take excurtion bus early in the morning and early breakfast was organised at the room.

Can't wait to get back there again
