“Wonderful stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Stayed for 4 nights here, the hotel is a real designer hotel. We had a room with mountain view, which was nothing special , but oke we don't stay in a hotel to sit the whole day in the room. The one thing I was afraid off was that the machinery for the airco was also in the backyard and was very noisy. Luckily the room was very good isolated so no problem at all. The bathroom was huge, and very well equipped.
The hotel staff was very helpfull and friendly.
The thing that could be improved is the breakfast buffet, why not offer more local sicilian fruit ? And also a better balance between sweet stuff and non sweet stuff.
Another point is the music in the hotel, all day the same ABC lounge music, starts to be very annoying.

We had booked a sea view room and got an upgrade to an exec (IIRC) room on the 4th floor overlooking the pool.

The rooms are spacious, have a bath and a walk in shower, Satellite tv, fridge etc. Small balcony, you can walk on but not big enough to sit on. Bed was large but too firm for my wife and I.

Views of the Amphitheatre and the sea, probably some of the best in the town.

The wifi is almost useless - signal was weak, and dropped, and when you were on it was pathetically slow. I don't go on hols to use web, but if you have it, make sure it works properly.

All the staff are very helpful and helped with recommending trips and restaurants etc.

Breakfast is good, no complaints there. Food on the roof terrace was ok, and a shame the bar up there wasnt used more - it was deserted most of the time.

Parking is impossible in Taormina, so we made use of their car park. Lumpy at 25 euros a day, and actually it isnt 25, it is 30 with tax, so their should be more up front about that.

Other than that a very nice stay, and would recommend this hotel.

Do go to Timeo Orient Express for a drink, but take a credit card!

Wonderful hotel, modern, super friendly staff, great location, stayed here for a week on a family vacation, cannot recommend it highly enough, we will be back. Breakfast is great, the pool is beautiful, and the views from the from rooms and the roof terrace are spectacular. A very short walk to the main area of town, less than two minutes, but manages to still feel calm and relaxed away from the hustle and bustle.

This htl is good. Its very central (literally 2min walk to corso umberto). Bfast is good. Staff are helpful.

Rooms though are small and showers are very badly designed leaking water everywhere when u hv a shower.
We paid extra to get a double 'deluxe seaview' room. The 'seaview' was not much of a seaview and for the most part u will c buildings blocking any type of view to the sea!

Overall it is a clean htl and the pool area is quite relaxing (although, again, pretty small)

Overall the feel of this htl is of a 4star. There are many missing touches to rate it as a 5star and the rates for the rooms lead to suggest it should be better than what it actually is. If the rates had been cheaper then i would have been positive about the whole experience but for the price all you get here is a standard 4star htl which is clean and centrally located. No extra luxuries, nothing special, small rooms, nothing to write home about.

You can get much better for the money elsewhere

Stayed in the Imperiale Hotel for 6 nights. The hotel is one of the nicest ive stayed in and I would give it 10 out of 10. The location is perfect 2 mins walk from the main area yet out of the busy touristy area. The hotel is modern, light and airy and very clean. The staff were very nice and all spoke very good English and were helpful any time we needed assistance.

Negatives - Pushed to find any....the pool is very nice, (mainly adults using it), yet a little on the small size, 10 couples i.e. 20 people and its full, doesn't seem to be the same scramble to get beds as in other hotels which is good although we would go down around 9 to get a bed and then go for breakfast.
Used the gym on several occasions, the equipment is relatively limited, a few heavier dumbbells/barbell would greatly improve it, but the negatives end there.
Like everywhere in Italy a 'city tax' is levied on each guest per night and the higher the star rating the higher the tax, as the Imperiale is a 5 star the tax is €2.50 per guest per night paid on departure.

Positives - many to highlight, the hotel and bright, clean and modern, the staff are excellent and the views from the hotel and pool area and roof terrace are amazing.

The breakfast is perhaps the best ive had in any hotel, from fresh juice, apple cake, selections of nuts, fruit, eggs made to order and coffee/tea etc, all served in good time by well trained and polite staff.

The rooms are very nice, spacious, well appointed and cleaned to a very high standard each day (inc. evening turn down). Nice biscuits left for guests each evening also. Air con is very effective and the beds are very comfortable.

Hotel organize a shuttle bus to the beach (2 different ones), we went to 'Paradise Beach' which is nice although stony like most beaches in Toarmina. costs €18 pp inc. bus there and back (c.10 mins away), towels and loungers, well worth the money when you consider a taxi alone would be about €15 and if you arrive to the beach independently a lounger and towel is c.€10.

Our aircon broke down half way into our staff and we were moved to an executive room, I had checked the price to upgrade to this type of room on arrival and it was c. €100 per night however having stayed 2 nights in one I felt the basic rooms are more than adequate.

Other tips for visitors to Toarmina - very nice restaurant 'La Dracena', eat 'Granite' (delicious iced fruit and local specialty at 'Bam Bar', top 3 things to do - the beautiful public park (Parco Comunale di Toarmina) in the town, visit the amphitheater (Teatro Greco) in the early evening for lovely views, get local bus to Castelmola (up higher than Toarmina). Did'nt visit Mt. Etna as we were only there for 6 nights, you can get cable car to main beach in Taormina (Mazzaro & Isola Bella) however bith were packed and not particularly nice, 'Paradise Beach' is much nicer and quieter. Avoid the cable car at hot times, we were baked. You can get local bus from Catania Airport to Taormina c. €8 into bus station in Taormiona, €10 taxi from bus station to Hotel. We got taxi (arranged through hotel) to airport cost €90 but we needed to as the flight was early, reliable taxi service, lovely taxi man and a nice modern clean mini bus taxi which in hind sight was worth it.

Room Tip: A normal room is perfect, nicer view from executive rooms etc but you don't spend time in the ro...

This is a modern hotel, almost minimalist in style, whereas most hotels in the town are very traditional. It has magnificent views of the Ionian sea and Taormina. The staff are very friendly and helpful, particularly the front of house staff and the professional manager, Giacomo. If visiting be aware that Taormina generally is unsuited to people with reduced mobility because of its hillside location, and the Imperiale itself is reached by quite a steep slope. The hotel does not have extensive facilities and those that is does have are quite modest e.g. the pool is very small, as indeed they all are in this town where space is at a premium. The Rooftop bar and restaurant can be monopolised by external events which can affect residents, and there are no other options in the hotel after 7.30. The problem is that the hotel cannot possibly compete with the variety of restaurants and cafes in the town, on either price or variety. But you don't go to Taormina to stay in the hotel! The only issues are the rather patchy housekeeping service and the small rooms, so go for a junior suite or above. It is not really a 5 Star hotel, more of a boutique but undoubtedly one of high quality. Not suited to families due to lack of space and facilities.

This hotel has a perfect location. It's modern, fresh and chic. It was fantastic to go to the spa after a hole day on the beach. Loved it! The hotel has got parking, but its a bit expensive. But on the other hand, parking in general are quite difficult in Taormina, so I guess we have to pay the price.

The rooms are spacious and clean. Its almost perfect. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing. We will definitely go back to this hotel, but Im sure about the town. Its beautiful, but is very touristic and expensive than other places on the island.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Myths of classic Greece, the Sicilian sea, Saracen and Norman echoes reflecting on the snowy slopes of Mount Etna. Day after day, the silence, colours, light and the aromas of Taormina relate infinite pages of stories, legends and traditions. An exploration of trees and sunsets, starry nights, timeless moments in the exclusive setting of the Hotel Imperiale. Stroll up to Hotel Imperiale through the streets of the historic centre of Taormina; through the scent of wisteria and the colour of bougainvillea. The position of the building, standing above the roofs of the town, provides an exceptional panorama, with the Greek Theatre in the foreground and the sea, from Capo S. Alessio to the Bay of Naxos in the near distance. A short walk away you will find Corso Umberto, Taormina’s exclusive promenade, which has seen a host of celebrities make this small part of Paradise famous throughout the world: Maupassant, Goethe, Oscar Wilde, Vittorio De Sica, Sophia Loren, Gregory Peck, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth and Liz Taylor. The magic of Taormina has beguiled many film directors over the years into setting their films here. Still today the world of cinema keeps its appointment every year for the Taormina Film Festival. Located in the heart of Taormina's historic centre, close to Corso Umberto I and the Palacongressi (home of the International film Festival), the historic Hotel Imperiale was built at the beginning of the 20th century and reopened in 2009 after restructuring works. The design and the restructuring has been carried out in full observance of the styles and local materials, such as the widely used volcanic stone, and has been adapted to modern requirements, in line with the philosophy of all hotels of the Exclusive Hotel Collection. The 63 rooms and suites enjoy Brazilian rosewood furniture, in colours reminiscent of the warmth of Sicily, its mosaics, ceramics and volcanic stone. The exclusive Pool and Terrace Suites boast a solarium or private terrace with a private outdoor spa bath and steam room. A panoramic outdoor pool and a Roof Garden treat guests to stunning views. This luxury 5 star hotel offers an exclusive 260 m² SPA with 5 CARITA and DECLEOR treatment rooms, the Anfiteatro restaurant with VIP room, serving traditional Sicilian dishes, the Pool Bar and a 200 seat conference hall making it an ideal place for important events and special occasions. ... more   less
