“Highly recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

My (75 year old) parents, my sister, and I stayed here in Sept 2012 for 7 nights in 3 deluxe sea-viewrooms - high above the coast - and the panoramic views of the Med. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food great - breakfast was particularly good value and the other meals could not really be faulted either. The hotel is well located just above the main shopping precinct. The rooms were small-ish but well appointed and dressed - beds were comfortable and bathrooms very good. Air con was execellent! Commendable for the multi-language cable TV options which were extensive and that more expensive 4+ star hotels in Paris and Rome cannot seem to manage to offer. I am picky and to nit-pick this hotel would be grossly unfair given just how average hotels in France and Italy can be in this price range. I would class this very good value. This is a grown-up hotel for grown-ups - the pool area is wonderful but apart from the pool the pleasures of this hotel and Taormina generally will be somewhat lost on the kids. For the kids, down on the coast might be better, unless you do not mind the drive down the mountain each day.

Room Tip: It would be a pity to stay here and not enjoy the sea-view rooms. If you are a very light sleeper fo...

“same "bad behaviours" signed housekeeping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

This was our second visit to this hotel. Taormina is a beautiful place and the hotel has a lot of positive aspects: very centrally located ,big rooms ,small balconies with outstanding views ,a small but nice pool. Yet ,I did recognise the same bad behaviours as two years ago: a very "invasive" attitude of the housekeeping ,do not respect the sign "do not disturb" and "hunt"
the moment you exit the room in order to access it . Anyway ,the fawcet in bathroom was broken but nothing was done and the curtains were never been closed as they must be for the evening turndown service ,no chocolates on our pillow and no note about weather forecast ,so why enter the room? They were only closing the Tv left by myself deliberately open .I had the feeling I was under control....
Breakfast was sort poor /you have to ask for every single item you want.
Bread ?They have to check if there is left (at 9 o'clock in the morning). Ham? They have to check ,same with the smoked salmon. The quantity of cottage cheese they put for all their guests can barely be enough for one person. So ,after we asked for bread and ham and eggs (got all of them but the feeling is like they do you a favour) we renounced to ask for cheese.
Visited at the beginning of October but Sicilia is a hot party of Italy ,the temperatures were high and the air-conditioning in the breakfast hall was not working so it was hard to say we enjoyed.
In our last visit ,2 years ago ,the hotel used to give discount tickets for the parking. This time they hesitated to say frankly that they are not doing it anymore ,every day we were told "tomorrow" but we checked at the parking and they said that this hotel does not work with them anymore .Parking is far away (20 minutes walk on very steepy way ,hard for older people) and if you want to pay as a valet parking this will cost you 25 Euro which is a lot considering you already paid 300Euro/night.
All by all ,this new very modern hotel beautifuly appointed does not give the 5 star service as we expected.

“Modern, top quality, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012 via mobile

We were relocated here after the hotel we had booked was closed earlier in the season than anticipated. I think we landed on our feet - great location, nice view from the rooms small balcony, and very friendly but discreet staff. Breakfast was good, and parking very convenient but a bit expensive at €25/day. Very easy access to main town centre, and a free shuttle to beaches. Overall a very pleasant stay, and would use again.

“Great Service and Great Location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

Imperiale is a really chic and "young" hotel. And the staff there is really nice too. They helped with anything we needed. Also, the breakfast in the morning is really good so be sure to go down there. The location is perfect! This hotel is literally steps away from all of the shopping and restaurants in Taormina. We'd definitely stay here again if we come back. The only drawbacks (and they're not even really drawbacks) are the lack of an ipod deck in the room and the shower. Water tends to leak onto the floor in the bathroom when you turn the shower on because of how it's made. We just put a few towels down though and everything was ok.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a sea view room with a balcony. It's really pretty!

“Gym, staff and laundry issues”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Location-wise, this hotel is located conveniently near the nearby shopping areas. The breakfast is not bad and the rooms very spacious.

The gyms however is something else; it opens only at 9am (a test of patience for early risers) and the equipment is very dated. When no earpieces were available for use with the equipment, a hotel engineer who was present was asked for assistance. Instead he was rude and referred me to Reception despite being right there!

The laundry service also has issues; it isn't returned at the promised time and they have this nasty practice of using staples to label your room number to your clothing. This damages the fabric as well as gives you a nasty poke when you wear your cleaned clothes.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Myths of classic Greece, the Sicilian sea, Saracen and Norman echoes reflecting on the snowy slopes of Mount Etna. Day after day, the silence, colours, light and the aromas of Taormina relate infinite pages of stories, legends and traditions. An exploration of trees and sunsets, starry nights, timeless moments in the exclusive setting of the Hotel Imperiale. Stroll up to Hotel Imperiale through the streets of the historic centre of Taormina; through the scent of wisteria and the colour of bougainvillea. The position of the building, standing above the roofs of the town, provides an exceptional panorama, with the Greek Theatre in the foreground and the sea, from Capo S. Alessio to the Bay of Naxos in the near distance. A short walk away you will find Corso Umberto, Taormina’s exclusive promenade, which has seen a host of celebrities make this small part of Paradise famous throughout the world: Maupassant, Goethe, Oscar Wilde, Vittorio De Sica, Sophia Loren, Gregory Peck, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth and Liz Taylor. The magic of Taormina has beguiled many film directors over the years into setting their films here. Still today the world of cinema keeps its appointment every year for the Taormina Film Festival. Located in the heart of Taormina's historic centre, close to Corso Umberto I and the Palacongressi (home of the International film Festival), the historic Hotel Imperiale was built at the beginning of the 20th century and reopened in 2009 after restructuring works. The design and the restructuring has been carried out in full observance of the styles and local materials, such as the widely used volcanic stone, and has been adapted to modern requirements, in line with the philosophy of all hotels of the Exclusive Hotel Collection. The 63 rooms and suites enjoy Brazilian rosewood furniture, in colours reminiscent of the warmth of Sicily, its mosaics, ceramics and volcanic stone. The exclusive Pool and Terrace Suites boast a solarium or private terrace with a private outdoor spa bath and steam room. A panoramic outdoor pool and a Roof Garden treat guests to stunning views. This luxury 5 star hotel offers an exclusive 260 m² SPA with 5 CARITA and DECLEOR treatment rooms, the Anfiteatro restaurant with VIP room, serving traditional Sicilian dishes, the Pool Bar and a 200 seat conference hall making it an ideal place for important events and special occasions. ... more   less
