My (75 year old) parents, my sister, and I stayed here in Sept 2012 for 7 nights in 3 deluxe sea-viewrooms - high above the coast - and the panoramic views of the Med. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food great - breakfast was particularly good value and the other meals could not really be faulted either. The hotel is well located just above the main shopping precinct. The rooms were small-ish but well appointed and dressed - beds were comfortable and bathrooms very good. Air con was execellent! Commendable for the multi-language cable TV options which were extensive and that more expensive 4+ star hotels in Paris and Rome cannot seem to manage to offer. I am picky and to nit-pick this hotel would be grossly unfair given just how average hotels in France and Italy can be in this price range. I would class this very good value. This is a grown-up hotel for grown-ups - the pool area is wonderful but apart from the pool the pleasures of this hotel and Taormina generally will be somewhat lost on the kids. For the kids, down on the coast might be better, unless you do not mind the drive down the mountain each day.
- Also Known As:
- Hotel Imperiale Taormina, Sicily
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
-
Myths of classic Greece, the Sicilian sea, Saracen and Norman echoes reflecting on the snowy slopes of Mount Etna. Day after day, the silence, colours, light and the aromas of Taormina relate infinite pages of stories, legends and traditions. An exploration of trees and sunsets, starry nights, timeless moments in the exclusive setting of the Hotel Imperiale. Stroll up to Hotel Imperiale through the streets of the historic centre of Taormina; through the scent of wisteria and the colour of bougainvillea. The position of the building, standing above the roofs of the town, provides an exceptional panorama, with the Greek Theatre in the foreground and the sea, from Capo S. Alessio to the Bay of Naxos in the near distance. A short walk away you will find Corso Umberto, Taormina’s exclusive promenade, which has seen a host of celebrities make this small part of Paradise famous throughout the world: Maupassant, Goethe, Oscar Wilde, Vittorio De Sica, Sophia Loren, Gregory Peck, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth and Liz Taylor. The magic of Taormina has beguiled many film directors over the years into setting their films here. Still today the world of cinema keeps its appointment every year for the Taormina Film Festival. Located in the heart of Taormina's historic centre, close to Corso Umberto I and the Palacongressi (home of the International film Festival), the historic Hotel Imperiale was built at the beginning of the 20th century and reopened in 2009 after restructuring works. The design and the restructuring has been carried out in full observance of the styles and local materials, such as the widely used volcanic stone, and has been adapted to modern requirements, in line with the philosophy of all hotels of the Exclusive Hotel Collection. The 63 rooms and suites enjoy Brazilian rosewood furniture, in colours reminiscent of the warmth of Sicily, its mosaics, ceramics and volcanic stone. The exclusive Pool and Terrace Suites boast a solarium or private terrace with a private outdoor spa bath and steam room. A panoramic outdoor pool and a Roof Garden treat guests to stunning views. This luxury 5 star hotel offers an exclusive 260 m² SPA with 5 CARITA and DECLEOR treatment rooms, the Anfiteatro restaurant with VIP room, serving traditional Sicilian dishes, the Pool Bar and a 200 seat conference hall making it an ideal place for important events and special occasions.
