This was our second visit to this hotel. Taormina is a beautiful place and the hotel has a lot of positive aspects: very centrally located ,big rooms ,small balconies with outstanding views ,a small but nice pool. Yet ,I did recognise the same bad behaviours as two years ago: a very "invasive" attitude of the housekeeping ,do not respect the sign "do not disturb" and "hunt"
the moment you exit the room in order to access it . Anyway ,the fawcet in bathroom was broken but nothing was done and the curtains were never been closed as they must be for the evening turndown service ,no chocolates on our pillow and no note about weather forecast ,so why enter the room? They were only closing the Tv left by myself deliberately open .I had the feeling I was under control....
Breakfast was sort poor /you have to ask for every single item you want.
Bread ?They have to check if there is left (at 9 o'clock in the morning). Ham? They have to check ,same with the smoked salmon. The quantity of cottage cheese they put for all their guests can barely be enough for one person. So ,after we asked for bread and ham and eggs (got all of them but the feeling is like they do you a favour) we renounced to ask for cheese.
Visited at the beginning of October but Sicilia is a hot party of Italy ,the temperatures were high and the air-conditioning in the breakfast hall was not working so it was hard to say we enjoyed.
In our last visit ,2 years ago ,the hotel used to give discount tickets for the parking. This time they hesitated to say frankly that they are not doing it anymore ,every day we were told "tomorrow" but we checked at the parking and they said that this hotel does not work with them anymore .Parking is far away (20 minutes walk on very steepy way ,hard for older people) and if you want to pay as a valet parking this will cost you 25 Euro which is a lot considering you already paid 300Euro/night.
All by all ,this new very modern hotel beautifuly appointed does not give the 5 star service as we expected.

-
Myths of classic Greece, the Sicilian sea, Saracen and Norman echoes reflecting on the snowy slopes of Mount Etna. Day after day, the silence, colours, light and the aromas of Taormina relate infinite pages of stories, legends and traditions. An exploration of trees and sunsets, starry nights, timeless moments in the exclusive setting of the Hotel Imperiale. Stroll up to Hotel Imperiale through the streets of the historic centre of Taormina; through the scent of wisteria and the colour of bougainvillea. The position of the building, standing above the roofs of the town, provides an exceptional panorama, with the Greek Theatre in the foreground and the sea, from Capo S. Alessio to the Bay of Naxos in the near distance. A short walk away you will find Corso Umberto, Taormina’s exclusive promenade, which has seen a host of celebrities make this small part of Paradise famous throughout the world: Maupassant, Goethe, Oscar Wilde, Vittorio De Sica, Sophia Loren, Gregory Peck, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth and Liz Taylor. The magic of Taormina has beguiled many film directors over the years into setting their films here. Still today the world of cinema keeps its appointment every year for the Taormina Film Festival. Located in the heart of Taormina's historic centre, close to Corso Umberto I and the Palacongressi (home of the International film Festival), the historic Hotel Imperiale was built at the beginning of the 20th century and reopened in 2009 after restructuring works. The design and the restructuring has been carried out in full observance of the styles and local materials, such as the widely used volcanic stone, and has been adapted to modern requirements, in line with the philosophy of all hotels of the Exclusive Hotel Collection. The 63 rooms and suites enjoy Brazilian rosewood furniture, in colours reminiscent of the warmth of Sicily, its mosaics, ceramics and volcanic stone. The exclusive Pool and Terrace Suites boast a solarium or private terrace with a private outdoor spa bath and steam room. A panoramic outdoor pool and a Roof Garden treat guests to stunning views. This luxury 5 star hotel offers an exclusive 260 m² SPA with 5 CARITA and DECLEOR treatment rooms, the Anfiteatro restaurant with VIP room, serving traditional Sicilian dishes, the Pool Bar and a 200 seat conference hall making it an ideal place for important events and special occasions.
