“A wonderful hotel in the heart of Taormina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

We stayed at this wonderful hotel this spring and we were delighted with the beautiful accomodation and very friendly staff. Maybe just one thing that could have been better - the roof top terrace is amazing, but unfortunately not used (at least not off season, maybe it is different in summer) - it would have been a real treat to be able to dine there, with a view over the city and the sea ...

We stayed in this beautiful place in June 2014. The hotel has about 10 rooms which ensures you feel at home. The decor and furnishings are tasteful and luxurious. The hotel restaurant serves a wonderful breakfast and we ate dinner there one evening, beautiful food and such a romantic setting on the roof terrace with stunning views of Etna.Antonio and all the staff were sol helpful and friendly and nothing ever seemed too much trouble. I messed up our transfer to the hotel but they had someone with us within 30 mins. Taormina is a fantastic location and everything is close by.
We will return to Taormina and there is no where else we would stay, loved it!!

Spent 2 nights here in early July. The hotel is located right in the centre of the beautiful town of Taormina, just a stone's throw (even a fairly terrible throw would do...) from the main pedestrian street of Corsa Umberto.

Despite the proximity to the bustling streets, the hotel is absolutely silent inside.

The hotel itself has only 10 rooms, all to an exceedingly high quality. This small number of rooms allows the staff to offer a very high level of service, and they were all extremely friendly and helpful during our time there.

Breakfast is satisfying and of high quality; dinner is also excellent, with a superb view from the rooftop terrace over the Taormina bay and the slopes of Mt Etna. The terrace is sadly uncovered, which hinders enjoyment during the day when the heat and sun exposure can be excessive.

There is no parking on site at the hotel, but parking in the very nearby Porta Catina car park is not overly expensive should you choose to drive.

The hotel has a shared agreement with Paradise Beach Club, which allows access to a private beach resort.

One of the best hotels I have had the pleasure of experiencing. The hotel only has 10 rooms on three floors set in a passageway up 38 steps from the busy main pedestrian street, Corsa Umberto. But it's tranquil and quiet. A glass elevator whisks you to your floor, so you can appreciate the view over the bay. Our suite was the blue one on their main website and it was absolutely fantastic! You could not have wished for a better view - it extended from Etna in the south to the amphitheatre in the north over the rooftops and to the sea. No balcony but the windows were large so that you felt you were outside anyway. Furnishings in light wood matched the wonderfully smooth timber flooring that helped create a light cool feeling. Air conditioning plus a huge ceiling fan helped when the outside temperature soared to a stifling 35C! WiFi (you get a username and password for each device from reception) was mostly fine though too near the window meant it was intermittent. Roll top bath, large very good separate shower in it's own cabinet, two sinks and toilet off the bathroom. Plenty of storage and space. TVs and satellite x 2. Lots of sockets (with 3 x vertical pins). Tea and coffee making facilities. Mini bar with chargeable drinks. Only minor points: the bed and pillows were a bit hard for my liking, even when we asked for feather/down ones. But this is a personal preference. Water in the evening turndown would have been appreciated too.
Breakfast in the restaurant is pleasant but not a huge range apart from pastries/breads. The menu was mostly egg based, but all was cooked to perfection.
The menu for dinner in the restaurant looked amazing but sadly we didn't have time to try.
Staff in El Jebel are one of it's strengths - reception, housekeeping and breakfast staff all friendly, and anticipated our needs. Wonderful service from A, B and S.
Roof terrace with an outstanding view if you could stand the heat!
Sad to leave.
Loved this place!

No swimming pool but they have an arrangement with the Paradise Beach Club at 20Euros pp at Letojanni. This includes a pre-bookable minibus transfer from Porta Catania gate operated on a timetable and which picked up at various other hotels in the town. Plus one towel, a bottle of water/Prosecco and a cabin with a key for changing and storing belongings. The club itself was pleasant but like all the beaches in the area, it's very stoney in and out of the water, so I would recommend that you take suitable footwear to wear in the sea. Loungers are plentiful but a bit hard. The bar and restaurant are very pleasant for lunch offering snacks to meals with wine. Best thing was the sea water swimming pool which was a lovely temperature.

El Jebel is a small five star gem amongst lots of luxury hotels in Taormina but perfect for a city stay.

Where do I start?!

What an amazing hotel. We had our Irish wedding here with 60 guests in June 2014 and it was perfection personified.

Location:
Right in the middle of Corso Umberto, El Jebel has the most spectacular roof top area. We had our drinks reception & cutting of the cake up here & our guests were awestruck by the views. Mt Etna & the Ionian Sea provided an amazing backdrop to our special day.

Food:
The food was exquisite!

Staff:
Having travelled extensively I can honestly say that the staff at El Jebel were the best I have ever encountered. The attention to detail was phenomenal. This is where the hotel really stands out; Salvatore, Roberta, Antonio, Rita (more on her later....!) and all the other staff help make our dream day a reality. Every request was catered for.

Wedding planner:
Rita, our Godsend from El Jebel spent 14 months planning our big day with us. No mean feat considering we are based in Australia. No ask was too small or too large. She really went above and beyond. An all round star, she maintained the utmost professionalism at all times while in the process becoming a friend.

Additionally, Rita fulfilled every wish a Bride could ever have, she really took the time to get to know the details that mattered to me (no matter how small!)

The church music was magical, the hair and make up artist was able to do the exact style I wanted from a few pictures, the flowers were the exact style and shade I was looking for, the band had everyone dancing and the cake was fantastic!

As a wedding location I could not recommend El Jebel highly enough. Thank you for making our day so magical.

Stacie & Alan

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2014

We have stayed in many 5 star hotels - most of them huge grand palace style venues. El Jebel is extraordinary as it's a 5 star hotel with only 10 rooms. The result of this is that the 5 star service is much more discrete and personal. You ask for something at the reception desk and it just happens - instantly! None of the usual delays you can encounter in much bigger hotels and - extraordinarily you hardly ever see a member of staff. The room we were given on the third floor was just beautiful. Perfectly appointed and everything you could ever wish for. The only little disadvantage of the hotel catering for ten rooms is that the breakfast buffet is not anywhere near as comprehensive as you would find in most other hotels of this standard - only really three choices on the menu and the breakfast buffet itself was really sparse. However, everything they offer is just perfect and we did not find this a problem. The location of El Jebel makes it about the very best choice in the whole of Taormina as it seems to be the only 5 star quality hotel which is right in the middle of everything. House keeping was just wonderful and seemed to happen as if by magic as soon as you left the room yet we never saw anyone doing it. The few members of staff we actually encountered were World Class in every area. The front desk staff - and in particular the wonderful Antonio - made us feel very much at home and made our stay even more memorable. This hotel is a real find and I cannot fault it on anything. If you are going to Taormina then make this your number one choice.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

We recently stayed for 5 nights at the El Jebel for our wedding which also meant all of our guests occupied the whole hotel for 2 nights at the end of May. This was not the first time we had visited the El Jebel but the first time staying; and it was the best. We have stayed at other hotels in Taormina that are 4 star and 5 star and this is by far the best.

Location:

The El Jebel is perfect for everything; late night strolls, early morning attraction spootting, cafe hopping and ice cream tasting as it is right in the centre; but also set back so extremely private. It is also I think at the better end of Taormina with the best restaurants, lovely piazzas and better shops.

The rooms:

All the rooms are very well appointed. We stayed in the top suite which is magnificant; but all the other rooms are all beautiful, clean and luxurious. All of our guests noted how wonderful their rooms were and we were very well looked after there. The bathrooms are easily the best in Taormina and the products (all El Jebel own) are lovely scented and excellent quality. The views are really stunning and you realy do feel special staying here. The room has excellent facilities such as state of the art TVs, comfortable and sylist furniture and well operating air conditioning. Basically everything you would expect from a 5 star; but the only one in Taormina which we have found actually does deliver all of this.....

Food:

Breakfast is lovely as they actually cook to order the eggs; which doesnt happen even at other 5 stars in Taormina. Every day we had perfectly cooked omelettes and poached eggs. They have a vast array of things you could choose from. They do also have a continental buffet which is the style of most hotels but the El Jebel did stand out as they had this cooked fresh element which made all the difference.

Please try the onsite restaurant also; Campioni; as this is really top notch. It is lovely and private which distinguishes it from other restaurants in the area and the food is exceptional.

Staff:

What transforms this hotel from a great 5 star to the best is the staff. Everyone from the cleaning staff, to the waiters, reception etc are all second to none. To mention a few that really made our stay amazing was Antonio; he really is an asset to the hotel; Marco (excellent barman) and Diego and of course Rita. Without Rita the wedding wouldnt have been such a success. She is a little angel.

What is special about the El Jebel?

It is a unique place; if you want an unforgettable experience then book here. I cannt recommend highly enough for a wedding also; it made our day.

Other small touches that set it apart are the things like a room weather card which tells you what the weather will be the next day which is great for planning what to do!

in summary; the hotel runs like clock work; it is a stress free and wonderful experience. We cannot wait to return for anniversaries.
