“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

We stayed at the Mendolia Beach hotel for 6 nights and were completely satisfied! Clean, frindly, nice helpful staff, perfect location for the beach and only 2 min walk from the cablecar to Taormina (3 min each way - price 3 euro each way), fantastic brakfast - lots of cake! But also fruit, ham, cheese, saussage, juice - and perfect cappucino! We stayed at the 2 floor in a standard doubleroom with a perfect seaview and a little balcon to sit on.
We would highly recommend this - and about the noise from the street? - just the italian sound of summer!!! When you close the door you hear absolutely nothing!! We hope to come back some day....

My son and I stayed there for 2 nights. Unfortunately he was driving and got muscle spasms in his neck. The night before we arrived we spent 8 hrs. in Mesinna at a emergency room. We arrived at the hotel at 1:30 in the morning. We were more than welcome.

We got up the next morning and couldn't believe the wonderful view. It was only a short walk on
the seaside highway to the funicular up to the spectacular town. We had to get his muscle relaxers for his neck and after that we were pretty much done with sightseeing.

I will definitely be back with my sister who is retiring.

The breakfast was fantastic out on the balcony, and we also had a balcony where I sat and had my wine and watched the beautiful sea and sunset. No restaurant but plenty on the beach and
in the town itself.

The rooms are a little outdated but the beds were comfortable and that's all that counts.

It also has a lift.

You can't get any better than that.

Room Tip: I am not sure if all the rooms face the ocean but ours did and it was great. The noise on the high...

The hotel is perfect and the view is really beautiful. We stayed there for plenty of days and we did enjoy all of them. The breakfast is really good. It is a medium buffet that has everything. Like in other comments, "Mario" was the best breakfast host we have ever met. The hotel provide access to the beach with free sunbeds and sun-umbrella. The hotel is near to the beach and near to the main road. Despite of the fact that many comments complaining about the noise, it depends from where are you coming from. We are coming from another Mediterranean country and we are used to this kind of noise. Actually we prefer this type of noise because we feel more alive being surrounded by other people instead of being isolated. The hotel is also near to the lift that goes to the city center of Taormina (has many shops, restaurants, bars etc). As far as we know, Taormina has the best nightlife in Sicily.

One disadvantage of the place is that the sea is full with small rocks and it is not so suitable for kids or people like me that love sand beaches. We do not recommend, in general, Taormina for people that love sand beaches.

We recommend this hotel for all kind of tourists (Solo, friends, couples, family etc). It is perfect.

Room Tip: All rooms have great view. All of them have the sea as a view

We booked late as we were already travelling from Catania so we had no choice but to accept the 'Junior Suite' or 'Apartment' as they called it. This in fact we realised was what they used for virtually all the photos on the site. If you look carefully they are all close ups of jugs or pillars or balconies - nothing of the rubbish room itself!

Good points - private safe car parking very close by; good location for coast; very friendly helpful owner/manager; nice airy breakfast room; view of Isola Bella beautiful; junior suite was huge; access to private beach with towels, sunloungers etc

Bad points - it cost a total fortune. Ridiculous amount for what felt like a very small 2 star place. The suite was horrible - badly needed renovating and redecorating; it looked like it was last done in the 1960s [were the other 'normal' rooms modernised?]; bathroom arrrgghhhh horrible - tiny plastic cubicle shower box in the corner and that leaked all over the floor with a plastic sheet pinned over the window; the beach restaurant was totally swamped - we waited an hour to be served with average food [to be fair the guy gave us a free glass of wine so a good attempt at customer service recovery but we'd rather have had our hour back!]; you only get free beach access the day before you leave so if you get there late for 1 night, you don't get it at all.

Would never stay there again at that price in that room.

Room Tip: Do not take the junior suite!

This hotel has about ten rooms which are bright and airy. The breakfast choices are varied and delicious. Mario is a great breakfast host. The room rate includes access to a semi-private beach club. There is no swimming pool or fitness center. The Mendolia area is located half way up the hill with the beach at the bottom and Taormina at the top accessible by funicular. Parking is available in a private underground garage for €12 per night. There is a lower cost public parking lot next to the funicular.
The view from the rooms is spectacular, overlooking Isola Bella. There are 3 restaurants across the street with pretty much the same menus and prices. Restaurante da Andrea, about 4 blocks lower down the road has a much more varied menu and better prices.
The museum on Isola Bella charges €4 admission.

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea and have good views. The lift can accommodate 2 persons without luggage.

We loved our stay at Mendolia. Beautiful views, excellent service, and amazing breakfast. It comes with a private beach, accessible by a long staircase, but lounge chairs and towels are included in the price of your stay and the beach is beautiful. Although it's a pebble beach, not sand! The location is ideal, in walking distance of the cable car that takes you up to Taormina, but away from the hustle and bustle AND right on the beach. Rooms were simple, comfortable, and clean. Service was impeccable. One morning I had used two pillows to sit upright in the bed, and when we returned in the evening the cleaning lady had noticed and immediately placed extra pillows on our beds. Nicest gesture ever. Don't hesitate staying here!

P.s. some people complain about the noise from the street. Yes, it's right on a busy street, but the rooms are equipped with A/C and once you close the balcony door, it's quiet as a mouse. We are both light sleepers but had no issues here.

Room Tip: There are two rooms adjacent to the breakfast room: if you're a light sleeper, make sure you ask...

Mendolia is a hotel with wonderfull panoramic view on Isola Bella for each room.
Breakfast was fine with a warm welcome by the italian barkeeper who lifed ones in Londen.
We reccommand this hotel for every one expect eldery people because the private and free beach for the guests is only accesable by a long staircase down.
