“Family oriented resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2011

Accomodating, honest, helpful & very courteous staff at Il Cantone! Superlative cleanliness, good value for room quality (bed & breakfast) & bathroom sundries, lovely private strip of beach, outstanding dining al fresco, good food at reasonable prices. The pictures are representative. Very nice family resort.
Originally reserved for a party of 5 adults, however, we arrived as a couple due to unforeseen circumstances. The owner graciously accepted to change our accomodations as needed without penalty! Maurizio, theconcierge, was a dear & attentive to our needs such as parking & internet.
Giardini Naxos, as stated, is on the outskirts of Taormina and the location of Il Cantone is across a stream, however, help with parking is readily available and public transportation to Taormina is very good. The hotel is aesthetically more pleasing than most hotels on the beach strip. The top floor has views. Plenty of restaurants, bars, & a pleasant walk along the public beach.

Room Tip: great bakery around the corner

We booked a 2 person apartment for 1 week but, we left after 1 night! This property is marketed as ''on the beach''. It's not. The restaurant sits above the beach with the apartment block behind it. The interior was newly decorated and matched the pictures on Expedia. The outside however was appalling. The building looked like it was about to fall down and the entrance, down the side of the building; was pitch black when we returned after dinner. Our balcony looked onto the back of the other apartments and the train, which ran all night; was directly behind the bedroom and was extremely noisy. The road to this property is not tarmac, but rocks and dust and the car park + beach were both under contruction.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2009

Our group of 12 rented 3 units here in late July 2009--we could not have been more pleased! Two units had 2 bedrooms each, and one had 3. Quite unusual for Europe, they were roomy and well air-conditioned, and the beds were big enough. Even by my friends' wives fastidious standards, they were immaculately clean. Parking is free tho tight by US standards. Each unit also had ample facilities for snacks and drinks--small refrigerator-freezer, sink, burners, dishes, silverware, and a table & four chairs. The location is perfect--right on the Mediterranean. We could see and hear the sea from the units.

The included buffet breakfast is excellent. But even better is the food at lunch and dinner, especially the pasta cooked with fresh ingredients, and it's not overpriced. The food is enhanced by the beautiful covered-open-air setting. Their chef is truly an expert at Italian cooking.

This is a family-owned and -run property; the owner is apparently a semi-retired building contractor, hence the especially high-quality workmanship in the units. The owners and staff are knowledgeable, friendly and responsive. The waiters happily accommodated our need (as U.S. residents) for plenty of ice with drinks.

The location is 5 minutes south of the main part of Taormina, on the north end of Giardini Naxos. There are many stores and restaurants within easy walking distance (hint--save money by buying drinks & snacks at one of the nearby small grocery stores). But do try the restaurant on site at Cantone del Faro for at least one lunch or dinner. At night the waterfront is alive with live and piped music, as well as locals and tourists taking a stroll-"caminata."

While the beach right at the property is fine, our teenagers and twentysomethings opted to go up to the Isola Bella area only a couple miles north, which has more people and "action." It's also easy to drive to upper Taormina with its concentration of shops and historical attractions. Given all this and much more not mentioned now, there's more than plenty to do for a mixed-generation group like us.

There are two large but unobtrusive, parking garages in upper Taormina, so parking is not an issue. Also, the main, pedestrian-only street there, Corso Umberto, has pavement smooth enough you could push a stroller or wheelchair on easily. Cantone del Faro is also close to buses and a train station, tho we had rental cars.

Having been to Italy a half-dozen times and the rest of Europe many more, I can say with confidence that this is one of the best, if not the best, deal I have encountered. We can't wait to return.
