This small restaurant, to be found at the end of a long steep sidestreet packed with various other eateries, proved to be a delight, the first good sign being that the clientele seemed to be made up in equal measure of tourists and locals. Nothing here is particularly grand - the specials are printed on sheets of paper which were being photocopied at the next door shop as we were sitting down - but the food was superb.
We started with the extraordinary bruschetta commented on by others, as good as I have eaten anywhere, and with one portion proving more than enough for both of us. For mains, we chose pizza and pasta with ragu respectively. Both were excellent, well-cooked and presented and generously portioned.
Service could charitably be described as relaxed - and with respect to one of the waiters, perhaps eccentric - but that was wholly in keeping with the atmosphere of what is clearly a cherished local meeting spot.
Our bill - modest one at less than 50 euros including drinks - was accompanied by free amarettos, a nice touch. This place comes highly recommended.
