“A hotel of historical importance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

When we arrived, the lady at the front desk greeted with a smile. A "chatter box?" - I worried. But she happened to be one of the most helpful staff, always ready with advice and assistance. She even guided to the deep basement where the hotel happen to have one of the oldest Jewish baths.
A hotel of true historic importance!
It's quiet hotel, good staff, good breakfast!

Room Tip: Room number 5 - a 2-bedroom number ideal for a family

What a great place to stay. Building has been wonderfully and tastefully restored and in a splendid location - just 5mins walk from the main piazza. The area for reading and relaxing is beautiful. Our rooms, sitting room and bedroom at the top of the building were clean and spacious - the kitchenette especially welcome. The roof terrace had a sea view - a good space for daytime sunbathing or an early evening drink before choosing from the many tempting restaurants. The staff were all friendly and helpful - the tour of the baths below is a must and the odd 10 minute wait whilst others were shown around did not trouble us at all. Breakfast was good - fresh and well-presented but a more variety would have been welcome - just a little boring for 7 days ! The kindly lady in charge of breakfast could indeed do with more help. As a place to stay whilst discovering Ortigia, we thoroughly recommended Alla Guidecca and are glad that we found it !

wonderfully relaxing place, very good service by concierge who is trying to trouble shoot any issue however small, we had the spacious #10 with literally two balconies, one overlooking the wonderful old ortygia (with sea view even), the kids loved it and we coudl have our own dinner above the rooftops of the old city..., bathroom top standard, kitchen stove a little small to cook on, but ok. Hotel is extremely well situated at the heart of the Giudecca, lady at the breakfast needs more help as she is overworked with so many customers, but the choice is good. Which hotel these days can claim to be in a house which is 800yrs old but all is still modern? perfect for couples keen on exploring Ortigia. A little bathing spot is alsoo just 5mins away, but it is better to go to Arenella by bus (from the Piazza della Posta) for a relaxing day snorkling in the sea. It is just a 20min ride .
Enjoy this characterful place. We will definitely go there again.

Room Tip: number 10 is very nice, on two floors with two beds at the top (directly under the old wooden beams...

Well appointed, clean, spacious apartment-like rooms in a quiet location well suited to seeing all of Sircusa (which is a "must see" when in Sicily) and its surroundings. Ample breakfast and helpful staff. Reasonable price.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Beautiful hotel but no lift, be prepared to carry baggage. Rooms were very clean and modern. Location was also good. Restaurant recommendation was questionable "Sicilia al tavola". Was not authentic and my friends dd not like the food at all. Choose any other of the eateries. The breakfast was very very basic for price as well, could be better. Overall happy with the hotel.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Our group of 8 stayed for 4 nights at this well located hotel in Siracusa. The hotel lobby is beautiful and the rooms are nicely appointed, tho a bit pricey for what they are. Unfortunately, the hotel is dreadfully understaffed. Outside of the early morning at check out time, there is only one person on duty who is often away doing tours of the Jewish Baths (a must see) or somewhere else. The office is frequently locked for up to half an hour during the day. The woman on duty was very helpful and pleasant, but incredibly overworked. The breakfast was very disappointing. Very basic even by European standards, cold with no fresh fruit and no variety day to day. Its hard to believe that such poor coffee can be served in Italy, but such was the case. We were left with the idea that the hotel is trying to cut costs with staff and food. We booked a room with a sea view, but it was not worth it. The view is partial and the room was directly across from a building that is being renovated, so it was quite noisy. The drain in our sink was broken and would not drain and the clamp on the shower head which fixes it in place was also broken. It took two days to fix the sink drain (full of water for two days!!) and the shower was never fixed. Each time we asked to have it fixed we were told it would be taken care of, but it never was. The hotel has an excellent location and is within easy walking distance of the major points of interest. If you stay here, get rooms in the main building without the views. They are spacious and quiet.

This hotel is a great place to stay tucked away down the ancient streets of Syracuse. We were taken here directly by prearranged pick up from Catania airport . A must when arriving is to ensure that the taxi drops you off at the Blue Bar at the end of Via G.B. Alagona (see address)with Via Nizza. Not to be confused with the Alla Giudecca B&B in the street of that name. We loved this place, a couple of streets away is a great store with lots of local supplies. Like all Italian towns, syracuse is quiet between 2 and 4.30 when the day is at its hottest but each room has a small kitchenette and so we were able to stay in some lunchtimes/afternoons and chill out on our balcony. We had loads of space for the three of us. The hotel has some ancient ceremonial baths 18 meters underground which is open for the public to see by guided tour between 11 and 6. It only lasts about 10 minutes. So if you do turn up while they are showing people around it is well worth waiting. I would stay here again. The staff were all helpful and friendly . Even when we ended up arriving really late because of the flight and the taxi error we were able to get some help. There is a small door bell on the RHS of the gate(access only by key in the evenings)and the owner let us in . I would recommend this to anyone.
