Baroque on the outside, ancient Greek on the inside. But if only they'd restore the organ! Fairly decent bars opposite, but tnohing to write home about.

My wife and I attended 2012 Christmas Mass at IL DUOMO and were very moved by the experience. We are in Ortigia for a few weeks and have visited the piazza and the the church often. Both are a must-see when in the area.
Like in every Italian town there is always a "Duomo" in the City's center. This one was one of my favorites. There are two pretty 2 churches, a big one and the small one in the "corner", with the man playing the accordion usually by it. If you go the "that small Church" you can enjoy the free viewing of Caravaggio's painting.
There something special about Syracusa's Duomo. Is it the open space, where the toddlers love to run? Is it the magnificience of the cathedral with his columns standing there first as part of the temple of Athena? Is it just the pleasure of being there sipping a coffee or a prosecco? I think its all of the above.
