“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

This is by far the nicest B&B we have stayed in. The rooms are light, airy, clean and spacious - and all have the most stunning sea view. We sat drinking wine on our balcony the night we checked in and all memories of the trains and taxis that day disappeared. The sea laps against the building, and you can venture in for a swim or paddle directly from the bottom floor. There is a lovely communal sitting room with panoramic views of the sea and breakfast can be eaten on the balcony. Sabrina is very friendly and helpful, and kindly gave us a lift to the station when we checked out.

The location is a little bit away from the Old Town (10 Euro in a cab) but we walked to the Archaeological Area in about 20 minutes or so, and the B&B is a 1-minute walk away from Jonico, a lovely local restaurant. All in all, I am glad we were in the location we were as it is so peaceful and scenic.

Very enjoyable views, good breakfast on the terrace with 180 degrees view to the Sea! The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are new. The personnel is helpful and very friendly and are happy to have you as a guest. It is not central, but in 10 minutes you reach Ortijia by foot. In any case parking in Syracuse is easy going and available. Very recommendable for many days in Syracusa

It is tough to beat the views offered by the Giggiulena B&B, as it is nestled amongst cliffs that overlook the Ionian Sea. I had a hard time deciding which I like better: Sitting on our balcony listening to the waves crash against the rocks, or enjoying the view while eating the tasty breakfast in the common room. Luckily, both were readily available. The rooms themselves were big, clean and well looked after. There are steps leading from the bottom floor down to the sea if you want to swim. The water was a little cold while we were there, but that didn't stop my wife from taking several dips.

Our host, Sabrina was always helpful, and ensured that we had a good time. As noted, the breakfasts offered a nice selection of local fare, and we always left full. There is also a really good restaurant, Jonico, just up the road. In fact it offered one of the best meals we had in Sicily.

The B&B is about a 20 minute walk to Ortigia, the old town, where most of the popular restaurants and sites are. We did a lot of driving day trips, so we didn't make the walk all that often, but it was pleasant enough when we did. While we were there in April '12, there was construction on the road the Giggiulena is on (or just off of). This made a narrow one way road two ways, which made for interesting driving.

The Giuggiulena is a place we would love to stay at again, and again.

Thee joy of this B&B is not just the pleasant, always smiling, always helpful host Sabrina. Nor is it the wonderful rooms with their own balcony or the views of a sea that needs to be framed and ensconed in the Louvre for all to see. But it is the combination of all of the above. Could not ask for a better way to unwind. Some nights we did not bother to go out to dine - a bottle of good wine and some arancini on the balcony watching the moonlight play on the ocean was all that our universe needed.

We stayed in early November during some very wild weather. The sound of the sea and the wind made our first night a bit scary but also an amaing experience. Sabrina is a great hostess, you couldnt ask for a nicer person to look after you. We decided to stay in on our first night due to the weather and we could make tea and coffee for free. Sabrina found us a piece of cake to supplement what we had. It was delicious. The lounge area is great for relaxing with comftable sofas and a view to die for. All the rooms have amazing views.
We loved our room with our balcony that made you feel you were suspended over the sea.

Breakfast was a very good, served in the lounge room by a lovely friendly lady. we enjoyed a selection of cereals, breads, croissants, cakes (freshly baked), juice, cold meats, cheeses, tomatoes, tea and coffee.

Quite a walk to Ortygia but after the breakfast the exercise is welcome.
Free parking and wifi were added bonuses.

We stayed for 3 nights in early October. The B & B was actually built by the owner's (Sabrina) father and she advised that she had a lot of input into the design. There is certainly a wow factor when you first step through the doorway into the large lounge area and get your first glimpse of the sea through the full length glass doors that nearly go the width of the room. These glass doors lead out onto the balcony where breakfast is usually served with the water lapping at the walls of the building below you. If it is raining, tables are set up in the lounge room for breakfast. At the back of the lounge room is Sabrina's office and the kitchen where you can help yourself to tea and coffee. She also keeps some wine and beer in the fridge which are available to purchase at a very cheap rate (beers euro1-50 each and bottles of wine euro6-00).

The bedrooms are actually on the 3 levels below the lounge room (which is at street level). There are 2 fairly large bedrooms to each floor (side by side) and all looked to be very similar in design, although our bedroom could have accommodated someone in a wheelchair with special handles in the large bathroom and a shower screen that opened on two sides. All of the floors are tiled and each bedroom has a full length window and door that opens onto a balcony with the sea just below you. The bedroom and bed were very comfortable and the room was well furnished. The room had a safe and free wifi was available. There was also a PC in the lounge room for guest use.

The B & B had an elevator that went from the loungeroom to each of the three storeys below so carrying bags was made easy.

Breakfast was a very good cold buffet set up in the lounge room. Typically it comprised cereals, breads, croissants, cakes (freshly baked), juice, cold meats, cheeses, tomatoes, tea and coffee.

Parking cost euro5-00 per day and cars were parked in a large garage that Sabina owns just across the laneway from the B & B.

Sabrina was a great hostess and sat down with us to explain the sights, good restaurants and the best way in and out of Siracusa to get to the other towns such as Noto, Modica and Ragusa. She also scanned and emailed some documents for another couple staying there. Whilst she now lives in town she still spends a lot of time at the B & B and she also leaves a mobile on a table next to the front door with her number if you need to contact her.

As others have commented you could go for a swim in the sea from the bottom level of the building. Googles, booties and snorkel were provided.

As others have also said the one downside is the B & B's location which is a good 20 minute walk (albeit flat) to Ortygia through some less than flattering scenery, to were the best restaurants are. We did not find this to be a large issue. Having said that there was a good restaurant, Jonico, about 100 metres up the road. A further 100 metres on was a self serve or full service laundromat. A large bag of laundry cost euro8 with drop-off and pick-up on the same day.

We also found the location easy to get in and out of Siracusa for day trips and the main archeological park was only a 15 minute walk inland.

First class. We would stay again in a heartbeat.

Tip - The B & B is in a very small and short laneway off the Riviera Dionisio Il Grande. The latter road shows on the maps as one road with traffic going both ways however this is not the case. The traffic in either direction is separated by buidings so you actually get to the B & B on the one way road going out of town away from Ortygia. Also take care as you come across the laneway all of a sudden and once past the turnoff it is difficult to reverse back.

Room Tip: All of the rooms were good and as there was a lift you didn't have to carry bags down stairs if...

This is a truly divine bed & breakfast hotel in Siracusa. It is set on the edge of the sea north of the city centre. Our bedroom was 2 floors below street level with a balcony opening straight onto the rocks below the hotel (there was another floor below us even closer to the rocks). Night and day we heard the waves crash onto the rocks. It was blissful. Breakfasts were excellent. The B&B is a fair walk from the majority of restaurants which are situated on the island of Ortygia but there is a nice restaurant-pizzeria just 100m up the road away from the centre.

Room Tip: I think all rooms have a sea view.
