We spent 8 nights in this flat in Ortiga and used it as a base to visit the local area. We were a bit nervous prior to our arrival because sometimes the accommodation doesn't live up to the pictures on the web site. We needn't have worried, the accommodation was superb. The apartment was in a building which I'd guess was built in the 1920's / 1930's however the apartment itself was modern and finished to a very high standard. It felt more like a high quality hotel with tolitries provided, even disposable slippers. There is 1 bedroom, a bathroom, and a kitchen/living room, which also has a sofa bed. Both the bedroom and living room are air conditioned. We even got to see some of the olympics because there was also Sky TV and a flat screen TV. Although we thought it was self catering, the owner Anita also provided breakfast. We arrived to find the fridge stocked with fresh limes and mineral water. I would recommend this apartment without hesitation.
Ortiga itself is a beautiful place with lovely architecture and some fantastic restaurants. The local market with fresh fruit, veg and fish was ideally located a 5 minute walk away. The chance to buy fresh seafood meant we cooked dinner at the flat twice during our stay.
Ortiga really was the highlight of our stay in Sicily. We used as a base to visit Noto, Modica and Ragusa. There are also some really beautiful beaches nearby. They generally have a small public beach with the rest taken up by lidos.
In Syracusa (mainland) the catacombs are a fasinating visit, as is the greek threatre.
