“Beautiful and charming old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

This is my favourite place in Sicily. It's nice to walk around and has many great restaurants with fantastic seafood. It doesn't have huge crowds and lots of cars.

“Nice old part of the town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

We were in Syracuse this semptember. It was great time but only in old part of the town - Ortigia. We liked it the most.
Nice old, narrow streets with great places to eat (La Tavernetta) and Duomo Square - especially after dark.

“One of the best vacation spots on the planet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

(1) The Ionian sea is absolutely beautiful, (2) the ancient ruins are breathtaking, (3) the fish is the freshest you will get anywhere, (4) the prices are reasonable, (5) it doesn't get the huge crowds you find in Rome, Florence, or Venice, (6) the people are relaxed and friendly, (7) the Baroque buildings in the city center are beautiful and gleam in the sunlight, (8) if you like history, you can see the exact spot where the Athenian army was defeated in the Peloponnesian War (9) it is only an hour from Taormina.

Isn't that enough?

“Charming, elegant and easy to walk around”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Having arrived in Ortygia from Palermo, it was a huge relief to be able to walk around the streets without fear of being mown down! Ortygia is a great mix of old charm, history, fantastic buildings, good (for the most part) restaurants and cafes, and beautiful ocean views.

“A beautiful stroll in narrow streets”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

To walk around the streets of Ortygia is definitely the thing to do when in Siracusa. I walked down from my hotel 20 min outside Ortygia and enjoyed some other views on the way, but it is inside the old town you really get to feel the greatness of this town. I had a map and kind of just walked my way around the streets, stopping at various sights and just enjoyed being there. Recommended!
