We read the reviews of Regina Lucia on TripAdvisor and enthusiastically searched it out on the beautiful Piazza Duomo on the island of Ortigia. Most of the reviews we read focused on the gorgeous location and the tasting menu, especially the seven-course tasting menu, so the seven-course tasting menu is what my wife wanted. We had hoped to be able sit outside on the magnificent Piazza, but it had been very windy all day, and it was still much too windy when we arrived for our reservation at 7:45. Regina Lucia can be blamed for its food and what happens in the restaurant, but Regina Lucia cannot be blamed for the wind.
Although we couldn’t sit outside, we were charmed by the interior of the restaurant. It was beautifully decorated, intimate, fairly dark, romantic, with acrylic tables and chairs, and each table was illuminated by candlelight. The wait staff was friendly and helpful, but they were not overbearing.
We were immediately greeted at our table by the server with a glass of Prosecco. The server then helped us select an absolutely fantastic Catarratto-Caricante blend. After considerable debate, my wife and I finally decided on the five-course fish tasting menu. We wasted no time in finishing each of the five courses; every single course was artfully presented and delicious – just plain outstanding. There was so much food that my wife felt as if she’d eaten the seven-course tasting menu after all.
We had several different servers during dinner, but we ended with the same server with whom we started. Our dinner totaled 130,00€. We’ve eaten at many outstanding Sicilian restaurants, even Michelin-rated Sicilian restaurants, and we believe that Regina Lucia could hold its own with any of them.
