“Over priced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Definitely a nice location, 5 * looking Resort but unfortunately service was at 3* level and Diining area is outdated, overpriced and the menu did not change over the three days we were there, which normally may not be a problem but there are no Restaurants close by and thus you are forced to eat at the Hotel unless you take a Euro 20 taxi ride to Ortigia or Siracusa.
Rooms are nice but again too close to each other and in our case we had to share a balcony with another room...strange.
The Hotel advertises that they have Wifi in the rooms but this was not the case with ours and created us many problems as we have to continue working while on holiday, i suggest the Hotel rectify this as soon as possible and not tell guests (even at Check in) that there is a connection when clearly it does not work from within the room.
As mentioned the location is superb and it would not take so much to make this Hotel a "True" 5*

This hotel is in a beautiful location and my partner and I loved how it was set out. The private beach and they rocky areas for sunbathing were stunning and were fantastic for sunbathing and relaxing. The pool area was also nice and it had comfortable sunbeds. The room I found was a bit small and had no wifi but the bed was very comfortable The bathroom was nice and spacious and very clean. The room also had a nice terrace with a table and chairs overlooking Siracusa. Unfortunately none of this quite made up for the terrible service we received. There was no bar at either the beach/rocky areas so you either have to go to the other side of the resort or wait for the very slow and incompetent staff. We were offered drinks on the first day by a member of staff while we were using the beach. The drinks never came. They were offered to us again on the rocky area and it took 25 minutes. The staff only offer to bring drinks once in a day so there is a long walk to the bar for a drink. The bar in the reception area was small and a bit 'out in the open' so you feel like you are on display in the reception area. Also there was never any staff at the bar so there would always be a long wait for a drink. The restaurant had a small menu and was very expensive. We ordered 'filetto di manzo' and what we got was veal. Breakfast was average. There was fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastries and meats and cheeses which were all perfectly edible but the hot selection looked disgusting. I feel the hot items should be made to order in such an expensive establishment. The poolside snack bar was where we had lunch on most days but there were no prices. We found out that for the substandard pre-made food was rather overpriced. Finally, the cleaning staff came into our room every day/evening when the 'do not disturb' light was on. I was not impressed by this at all.

Nicely maintained property and some very good staff, notably the in pool area and reception, but rooms are single storey and hence even deluxe sea view rooms have plants etc which obscure the vista. The hotel is some way out of town and there are few restaurants nearby to compete with the over-priced and depressing dining room.

After having 5 days in the North of Sicily, we decided to travel to Siracusa and this hotel looked ideal; upon checking in we were then driven to our room (since the hotel is on a large complex of individual villas sort of) – the décor was gorgeous and you could definitely see why it was 5*. We toured the hotel, which had so many places to go we were lost with choice! The pool was lovely, the beach also, and the titanic cliff edge on the rocks by the sea was unbelievable. So all in all the hotel looked amazing!

However, there are some downfalls – the prices in the hotel are ridiculous – one day by the pool we ordered a fruit salad, a tomato pasta (both in small portions) and a large water which cost €26! Understandably in a 5* you expect inflated prices, but that’s just crazy. The spa's prices were also crazy, so we didn't try there either. The hotel restaurant also didn’t have much of a selection, and the menu didn’t change the whole time we were there – lots of fish as expected. There was supposed to be another casual dining in the Minareto tower but this was shut the whole time were there also.

Also, we had to change rooms after 1 day because our room got infested with ants (eek!), though this was quickly dealt with (despite the initial solution to send the maid with ant spray?!) – this could be common as all hotel rooms are on ground level, and most are by trees and plants etc.

Breakfast was mostly ok – pastries, cereals, scrambled eggs and Italian meats, fruit, and lots of fresh juice and water- to our surprise Soya milk was also provided which was unexpected. However the waiters must ask you for tea/coffee, which on some days they never did which I believe to be really poor service. I even noticed one woman just brought a jug of hot water without any tea or milk, which is poor considering this should be a 5* hotel. Service by the pool was really good however, so we couldn’t fault that.¬

It was also really useful having a TV with a computer (there is a sort of PC tower attached to the back of the TV which you can use as a computer with a wireless keyboard which is provided), though yu can’t get wifi in the room, and it’s limited throughout the hotel.

In terms of location, the hotel is around 1.5km from Siracuse town, but there is a shuttle bus provided twice a day – not a problem if you have a car. There’s also a LIDL on the way into town, which was useful to get a few bits as there’s space in the minibar fridge to put them. Nevertheless, the hotel has so many places to go we chose not to leave on most days, but found we definitely had to go out in the night to get some food – there are some restuarants within walking distance, though we never tried them.

All in all I would say this is a lovely looking hotel, which is decorated and built as a 5*, however the service definitely is NOT 5*, especially compared to other 5*’s I’ve stayed at in the UK. Nevertheless, we would problably return since it is so relaxing, the views are spectacular, and there are some real gems in Siracusa, along with some gorgeous restaurants that we would go back to (see my other reviews); however the service was below expectations and we would remember this when returning.

Me and my husband came with another couple to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversaries. We were not disappointed. We loved the beach and sitting on our balcony watching the sunsets. The breakfast buffet was great and the two meals we had at the resort were wonderful,

Top notch service and everyone was more than happy to help with any request we had.

Don't miss going up the tower by the pool to enjoy the view.

Our stay was exactly what we were wanting and we will always remember our stay here, an amazing anniversay trip.

Dear traveller if you ever been in a real 5 stars hotel or in a real 4 stars superior hotel in your life avoid this place like hell! As a traveller stated about this hotel here some time ago Minareto might try first to be a good 3 stars hotel before fooling travellers around saying they are a 5 stars resort hotel.
At their site clicking at restaurants you are going to be fooled as they show there 5 "restaurants". The only real restaurant at the time we were there was Nesos Restaurant. It is also the ugliest and saddest decorated restaurant I've ever seen! Plastic flowers, ficus trees, heavy clothing beige draped curtains covering the windows all of those not suited for a 5 stars hotel at the beach!
The taste of the food and presentation of the dishes at lunch and dinner were quite ordinary not suited for a 5 stars hotel restaurant either.
Air conditioning at room did not work well it looked like the hotel were saving money turning off air conditioning of the rooms.Too much mosquitos so we could not open the door to the balcony we had to ask help at concierge.
The hotel is far from Syracuse and they do not have taxi service at their door. Its awfully strange for a 5 stars hotel. If one might need a medicine and does not have a car one needs to wait from 20 to 30 minutes for a taxi to arrive at the hotel plus from 20 to 30 minutes to go to Syracuse and more 20 to 30 minutes to get back at the hotel.
Booking 8 days at this hotel almost ruined our vacations. After 2 nights at Minareto we ran away from there as fast as possible as soon as we found room in an enchanting hotel in Syracure-Ortigia.

Being fair: they have a beautiful view of Ortigia. They have 2 very nice restaurant attendants: Gabrielle and a guy from Sri Lanka. Other good point: after we left the hotel the manager sent a hand written letter and a box of sweets excusing themselves for all the inconveniences we had while staying at Minareto and saying they hope we might give them another chance in the future. We hope they can get it over with!

Room Tip: If you insist going there get a room with balcony at cliff edge overlooking the sea

We spent 2 weeks at this excellent hotel. The view of Ortigia from our sea facing room was amazing. The service was without fault from the day we arrived until the morning we left. We found that the staff were very friendly ,supportive and motivated to provide the best service available. The dining room is welcoming and spacious . The buffet at breakfast is fresh and provides a good variety of food and cold drinks. The hotel is in a quiet location approx 9km from Seracuse. We did not have a car, however the hotel provides a courtesy bus which goes to and from Ortigia twice daily. We spent 2 weeks exploring, and visiting many places of interest in Ortigia and Seracuse. We also explored the area local to the hotel and ate at local restaurants. We had a wonderful and memorable holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are amazing.
