Description: I describe a little cos' is now Vite & Vitello: is a place that looks forward and does not want to present to the guests as "Restaurant" but rather just a place where people of all ages can gather to choose what suits their needs, location very fresh, with minimal settings where we can have people at the same table and have different types of cuisine, it ranges from Happy hour with tapas, to finger food, to drink or to just simply have a cut of meat, or full meal, or go to do Après dessert tasting a sweet, maybe praline accompanied by spirits and cigars say a Location Ecliptic. It 's very good Christian De Simone Cheff the pupil of the famous and plurimedagliato Executive Cheff Maurizio Urso.It deals with care of the organization of the kitchen is a curious boy who always tries to find the "More" in things. The dishes that are now found in the menu, express sophistication of the product, fresh, km 0, territory tradition and innovation, but accompanied tastefully knowledge and study, just to suit all ages, tastes and above all, the location lends itself very well to the friendly, yes even people who do not know may be to discuss food, art, culture thanks to the short porch that are facing the church of the Immaculate, sitting outside with others simply by drinking a cocktail can lead to not only get to know and to discuss wine and food, but also of art, on the other hand syracuse is rich from this point of view, and because in the kitchen we have nothing left to invent rather we have to take back old traditions, perhaps is the most suitable for those who work in expressing with dishes and welcome the Ns traditions, we want to give our guests the pleasure of feeling at home discussing taste and feel good in this location.

“Really good steak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We dined at quite a few restaurants during our 2 weeks in Syracuse and this was definitely one of the better ones. It's hard to compare when eating different things, but we went there specifically for steak, and it delivered.
I had a veal steak and my wife went for an angus steak fillet, both of which were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious.
The service was good too, and the waitress was very attentive, and recommended an excellent glass of red to accompany the meal, I just wish I could remember what it was called.
It was also really good value at under 50 euros with prosecco aperitifs, a shared starter, mains each and wine with it.
Definitely worth a try.

“Avoid at all costs; appalling service and poor food.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

In a nutshell, avoid this place at all costs.

After reading so many positive reviews on TripAdvisor, my partner and I decided to try Vite e Vitello for one of our dinners during our stay in Ortigia.

We arrived at about 8.50pm and were seated at an outside table on the corner of the building, which was quite windy. We asked the waiter if we could move to one of the free tables at the other end of the terrace but he said they were reserved. OK we thought, fair enough, and we stayed where we were.

We ordered about ten minutes later (9.00pm) and were brought some bread shortly after. For antipasti, we ordered a mixed meat and cheese platter and a mixed fried vegetable dish (courgettes, aubergine and red peppers). For such a simple starter, we were surprised it took almost half an hour for it to arrive. The mixed fried vegetables were quite nice, but the mixed meat and cheese platter was uninspiring, comprising of some very average ham and bland cheese. The strangest thing was it was served on a wooden chopping board that was covered in cling film! It completely ruined the presentation – every time I cut through the meat it would cut the cling film underneath as well. What kind of a restaurant is more bothered about minimising their washing up than the presentation of the food?! It only got worse from here though…

After the plates were cleared at 9.45pm, we sat waiting for our mains, which were a mixed grill of rare lamb, sausage and veal, and a rare Aberdeen Angus steak. Twenty minutes later, no mains and empty drinks glasses. I tried catching the attention of the waiter and waitress but they seemed to be avoiding us.

My partner noticed something at this point; the two tables at the other end of the terrace that we asked to move to but were told were reserved were actually being sat at by members of staff who were smoking cigarettes and having a chat! Of course, it’s their restaurant and if they want to do this they can, but a proper restaurant would have bent over backwards to ensure paying customers were happily seated.

It got to 10.30pm and we still hadn’t been served our mains. 45 minutes and not a single word from a waiter or waitress. We weren’t expecting an ‘express’ service because good food takes time, but it this was unacceptable. When the food finally arrived, the steak was beyond well done and the mixed grill was similarly cremated. We were so fed up by this point we decided to leave. I called over the waitress and told her we were not happy with the mains. No apology. So I said we would only be paying for the starters and drinks and not for the mains. She and another waiter became very aggressive and said we had to pay for the mains or they would call the police, even though we hadn’t touched them and they weren’t cooked as we had ordered. After 10 minutes of arguing, we were so bored of her rudeness we begrudgingly left €5 for each main, which she took.

Vite e Vitello was by far the worst meal we had in Sicily. Terrible service, poor food and a bad attitude all round.

Head to Apollonion Osteria da Carlo, La Tavernetta da Piero or Piano B for real hospitality.

“Simple but nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

Been a couple of times. The food is good, well cooked fare based upon meat dishes backed by a solid selection of wines. The place lacks the atmosphere of more expensive restaurants but, sitting outside, you get to see Sicily in action. When there the staff spoke little english, which is unusual in Syracuse, but really served to emphasise that they target the local clientele not tourists. So try out your Italian!

“Pleasant eatery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012

We enjoyed our meal here in this small restaurant. Though we had not ordered one, we were given an appetizer to sample. The staff treated us very nicely even though they had a large group luncheon going on while we were there.

“Good food, good wine and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2011

As we had just arrived in Siracusa, we picked our first dinner venue on our stay from our guide book and we both fancied steak so ended up here. We were a bit concerned it was empty when we arrived (it was a Tuesday) but took a gamble and went in. It paid off as the food was impressive: I enjoyed a flavourful risotto (prawn & zucchini) and my wife was raving about her aubergine starter. Both our steaks were also well cooked and the side of caponata was excellent.
There was also a sizeable local wine list (though nothing in comparison to that at its sister restaurant, Don Camillo, across the road) and we picked a very good value syrah/cab save blend whose name escapes.
The room is perhaps a little bright with an odd office style entrance, though you can sit outside too in a small piazza. The staff were friendly although service was a little slow (the chef also had to deal with a 16 strong family birthday party which filled the place up!) but we would definitely go back.
