I normally prefer B&Bs that provide breakfast on site but Charme Ares had been recommended to us, and after reading the reviews, I decided to go with it. I was not disappointed. Enzo provides vouchers for breakfast at possibly the best place to have breakfast in town, at the Gran Caffe right across from the Duomo.
The B&B is in a house/building where the rooms have been beautifully restored and tastefully furnished. We had a spacious room and bathroom at the back of the building so it was quiet; not that it was a noisy area.
The location is perfect, with only a 5 minute walk to the Duomo and about 30 metres to the sea and the road where you can catch the free shuttle bus to the train station. Also very close to the main road leading to Piazza Archimede and to restaurants.
(A tip to anyone arriving by train about the location of the bus stop - when you get out of the train station, walk diagonally to your left. The bus stop is about 20 metres away.)
Enzo is an excellent host and always ready to please. He was most helpful with anything we asked for. He even walked us to the laundromat when we needed some washing done. He showed us on a map the places to see and recommended some good restaurants. He is very enthusiastic and proud of his city and justifiably so. When taking us to breakfast on the first morning, he pointed out places of interest and also explained the various architectural styles, etc.
I would recommend Charme Ares to anyone visiting Siracusa.
