“Drama! Death! Laughs! Redemption! Tradition!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

Really, what more can you ask? I was delighted to get to a Puppet Show. As much as I loved the funny/heroic puppet play - the most revealing aspect of the famed Sicilian puppet tradition was the bust of a handsome gentleman off stage right. We found out after the show that it was a bust of the present puppeteer's grandfather. That tells the story. Their training was apparent in the timing of the sword thrusts and the comic twists. I thoroughly enjoyed the show without knowing precisely what was going on - but truly enjoyed when the actors/manipulators came out from behind the curtain and spoke with us about their art.

“High opera”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

I reviewed this attraction earlier giving it the lowest rating by mistake, though I gave a rave review. It really is an excellent attraction that we stumbled into and were really lucky they found a space for us though we didn't have advanced tickets. Though the dialogue is in Italian, we were given a thorough synopsis of the story in English and the action says it all.

“revelation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

We'd read about puppet theatre in the guide book, and I just had to see one. The performance, in a dinky little theatre of about 24 seats was quite unlike any other puppet performance I've seen. The puppets are large and probably manipulated by more than one person. The plot line (The Flight of Angelica) is pretty incomprehensible, but we're back in the tradition of troubadors and the romances of the middle ages. Just like everyone in the UK knows the story of Arthur, everyone round here knows, or ought to know, the story of Angelica, Orlando and their chums and foes. Good knock about stuff in parts; as usual, women's roles are a bit rudimentary; and there is a bit of stereotyping of both the Spanish and the Saracens. Good entertainment.

“A joy to watch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

The skill of these puppeteers is amazing! The show we saw, "The Flight of Angelica", included sword fights and one of the puppets even pushed the visor on his helmet up and down with his "hand". The puppets looked much larger on the small stage which is raised so you are looking up to it. We were all so surprised when they brought a puppet down to us at the end of the performance. It was about the size of a small child! Excellent show by masters of their craft.
