I'm not sure what you have to do to get five stars in Italy. It doesn't seem to be the same as the US. This hotel has no restaurant, no exercise room, etc.

It enjoys a great location. Room quality was very nice. Price seemed appropriate for quality of the hotel. We loved the Tribeca restaurant located next door. One of the best breakfast buffets we encountered in Sicily.

Dislikes: Very overpriced hotel bar/mini-bar.

This hotel is located between both main streets in Palermo - the rooms were generous and really well appointed. The buffet breakfast was magnificent and could ruin your appetite for the whole day if you gave into the temptations that were lined up across two walls. Staff on the front desk were always helpful whenever we had questions. A great place to begin a discovery tour of a great city.

The Grand Hotel Wagner (€125/room/night) turned out to be a very good choice. I liked the location on the border of both the old and new cities. It’s located one block off busy Via Roma on a quieter street and just a couple of blocks from the Via Principe di Belmonte, a pedestrian street with upscale cafès and shops. The hotel is well maintained. The décor does include a lot of gilt trim (we saw a woman painstakingly painting the trim outside the elevator on the lobby floor), but it felt right, like the palazzo it used to be, rather than fussy or over-the-top. Our bathroom was modern but small; our sons’ room, with its two twin beds, was larger and its bath was to scale with the bedroom. The breakfast was extensive but seemed more geared to businessmen than tourists. Jams were in little jars and yogurt in cartons. I’d guess the baked items weren’t made onsite. The orange juice was fresh. All the staff at the hotel were quite helpful and accommodating. My husband arrived just after breakfast closed at 10:30 one morning, and the waiter brought back everything from the kitchen for a complete breakfast.

we stayed in the suite at the second floor, the room was gorgeous, ancient fornitures, great decorations a lot of gold and magnificent courtains!jacuzzi in the bathroom made it even more confortable. the rooms are very quite and the location is fantastic! in the very center, close to the best shops in Palermo, close to night life but in a very safe part of town ad you can go everywhere on foot.
we tried the spa, very relaxing, plus you don't have to worry about the parking as Nicola is going to take care of your car. We had a wonderful time!

We stayed for our honeymoon. Our room was very clean. We stayed in a regular room. The bathroom had a standup shower marble everywhere and very clean. The buffet breakfast we thought was good. Some of these reviews seem like the people are rude. Not all places are going to be exactly what we are used to in our own countries. The staff was very nice and helped us in any way we needed. Location was awesome.

I am writing after a very disappointing experience with the Grand Hotel Wagner in Palermo. I was staying in the Aeolian Isles for three weeks working and the one night stay in Palermo at the end of the trip was meant to be the celebratory culmination. However, it was one of the most disappointing stays I have ever had in a hotel.

We arrived in the rain, exhausted after a long ferry and train ride, and were ushered into one of the tiniest hotel rooms I have ever been in. The decor was much tackier and of a lesser quality than portrayed in the photos of the hotel, and the bathroom was so tiny one could not even stand in the shower without banging into the walls. Worse was the fact that there was NO HOT WATER.

We had neither been warned of this fact nor given any apology about it. I went to the front desk to ask if we needed to press a switch to turn the hot water on (in our tiny bathroom with below average and below average quality soaps and shampoos) and was told that the hot water was broken - again NO APOLOGY.

Breakfast the next morning was in a tiny, claustrophobic basement with tasteless food and horrible music being piped through (also in the lounges in the hotel) and the whole experience was disappointing and frustrating.

When I asked for an explanation as we left at the front desk the manageress was dismissive and defensive and would not give me an address to send a letter of complaint to.

On my way to the Aeolian Isles I stayed at the 'budget hotel' Hotel Orientale and had a magnificent time. The rooms were big and beautiful, the whole place was clean, comfortable, had a marvellous atmosphere and true class. Also it was half the price. I keep looking at the reviews now for different hotels in Palermo and wishing we had gone to any one but the Grand Hotel Wagner. I feel not only that we deserve to be compensated in some way for this terrible experience but also that everyone should know what this hotel is really like - not a Five Star Hotel and not a good place to stay.
