“large room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

very large room, with nice old-style furniture, it will make you feel like you live in a palace/castle.
Private bathroom, the only drawback is that the bathroom is not ensuite, but outside of the room, wich gets a bit annoying specially for a long stay.
extremely clean, good matress.
Really poor breakfast, they offer basic kitchen facilities, where you can prepare yourself some tea, and just some crackers, marmalade, and butter. Just the basic stuff not to starve in the morning.
The place is very difficuld to find even with a navigator.
Friendly and helpful staff.

Getting to Casa Orioles was quite an ordeal, but once there we were amazed. For starters, the entrance hall is so cozy our littlest one thought it was going to be our room. We had booked two apartments for our family of 5, but after having discovered that they were 70-80 sqm each, we settled for 'just' one. The one we stayed had a roof-top terrace from which you can see the neighbourhood, church cupolas and spires, and the mountains. Stunning and highly recommended if it is available.
The aparment has two exceptionally large rooms, one with a four-poster bed and the other a large double bed. Both comfortable. There are shutters for all the windows to keep the light and some of the noise out, and one comfortable round wicker lounge chair in each room. Kitchen is OK with cooker, fridge and most utensils etc. Bathroom spacious and fairly nice with a shower with very little pressure.
They hostess was very nice, spoke good English and Spanish, and had a lot of advice to give.
The neighbourhood of Albergheria is not the nicest and has a third world feel, but also has a lot of charm. Parking is Palermo style (anywhere you can find a space even if it means parking other cars in).
The market at Ballaro is very interesting and has a few lively bars with locals and students mostly, and street food (yummy pancakes). We felt save, but there is probably reason to be careful as the streets are dark and all the alleys.
Everything is walking distance including the lovely cathedral, Teatro Massimo, the port, and the other neighbourhoods of Vucciria and La Kalsa.
Recommend this place to anyone visiting Palermo and not afraid of stairs and a different big city experience.

Room Tip: Get the room with the roof-top terrace.

Excellent appartements! The rooms are very big, airconditioned and clean. The owner is a very friendly lady and she gave very usefull information about the city and the neighbourhood. This appartement is located in a little ally close to the big cathedral in the city centre. The neighbourhood is a bit noisy but so is the whole city of Palermo ;)

The neighborhood, which seems like it should be nice based on the vicinity to te cathedral is shockingly dirty and noisy. The apartment however was very nice and large. But make sure you have everything you need before you take the keys because it's hard to get a hold of the host again, even for toilet paper, and no one comes in to clean the rooms.

In a rather typical part of the old town, close to the cathedral, palazzo dei Normanni and Ballaro market. Big spaces, no elevator, kitchenette where one can prepare one's own breakfast or other meals, in a neighbourhood made up of a few ruins, some unrestored and an increasing number of restored buildings. Neighbours can be noisy until late at night, at other times kids try out their motorcycles in the surrounding streets. We had no problems with security although people warned us about avoiding dark alleys at night. Police headquarters are close by. Definitely a special experience at a reasonable price.

I booked casa orioles because the comments on booking com. were "favulous" I think if you really want to give your oppinion so other persons can trust , you have to be really impartial. In fact, the owner was very polite and nice, but the B &B was not the favolous I would have expected..
First of all it is located in the Ballaro area.. very old and ruined. you have to arrive walking. Close enough to the cathedral, but the whole area is not characteristic or nice at all..
At night it is not easy to find a nice restaurante close by.. The first night we were recommended one . Very good although not cozy. The seccond night we walked for about an hour finding abbsolute NOTHING .
For breakfast you can find mermalade, butter and "fette biscotate" In a small fridge water ,milk and pear juice .
.
There were also tea bags and "coffe" that you had to prapare in a Moka express. The problem was that the electric boiler was broken and dirty and the electric grill was not warm enough to make coffee.
Having stayed at other "B@B of this kind, where you have cheese, yoghurt, fruit, lots of different bisquits and crakers ,.I found this "breakfast" really poor

We were first attracted to Casa Orioles because of the size of the rooms and the competitive price. We only intended to stay one night before moving on to other pastures but after arriving at Orioles decided to book another 2 nights immediately!

This place reminded me of a Moroccan Riad. It's beautiful, full of antique furniture and more than enough room to swing several cats. They provide comfy beds and adequate bathrooms.

The only quarm I had here was that nobody was around at breakfast, just a few rolls, jam and coffee making facilities were available for you to tuck into at your leisure, this didn't hinder us in the slightest but a friendly face might have been a nice touch.

We will most definately be back to this hidden beauty. Counting down the days already!
