Arrived in Palermo late and was actually just staying the night before heading to the airport the next morning. Palermo was a horrible city - seedy at night, dark, old and badly maintained. The only upside was the great restaurant we went to nearby that we found in Frommer's - the pizza there was divine, and it was right next to a beautiful church and we sat right by it and watched Palermo nightlife. It's called Osteria Dei Vespri.
Casa di Zoe is right in the centre of town but the place was a bit creepy. The lift was one of the most ancient lifts I've ever seen, I was quite concerned it was going to break down on us just going up the 2nd floor but it deemed fairly reliable.
The room we got was huge and spacious, with a living room and bedroom but the furniture was all a bit haunting. There was an old wooden cupboard with mirrors on the front, a very large old bed and a wooden cot in the main bedroom. It's probably all very old italian style but it just reminded me The Omen or something. All in all, it wasn't a very good night's sleep.
Breakfast is homemade and simple. The ladies were very accomodating and like the review before mine, we were surprised to see 3/4 families staying there too as at night it was dead silent. Anyway we were glad we decided not to stay in Palermo for long and immediately headed to the airport early the next morning.
Note to all going to Palermo airport - the jams there can be pretty bad so make sure you leave early to check in to your flight. We were lucky we made it and that's only because our Ryanair flight was delayed!
