“The terrace view was spectacular, everything else was poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

The view from the terrace is great, I agree with all the other reviewers, but our rooms were pretty lousy. We had a depressing, dark apartment in a dependence of the hotel around the corner; one window looked out onto a small garbage dump, the other to a hip youth place with music until 3am. The staff seemed disinterested, all in all not a recommendable experience.

Dear Sir,
we all apologize for your experience in the apartment!
I would inform you and all the guests that have written about their negative experience in the apartments , that we decided to vacate them because, due to the too loud music and noise coming from the street clubs nearby, it was impossible for us to maintain our quality standards.

We always do our best to guarantee a pleasant staying to our guests, so we are sure, if you want to come back in hotel this time, you will certain feel at home!

So if you're in Palermo and want to be close to all the bars and great street food, this is definitely where you should stay. The great view on the roof also helps of course if you wanted to grab a relaxing drink before heading out on the town.

My only complaint is the internet, and it's a pretty valid one. If you're not on the top floor, the wifi will not work in your room. There may have been an option to have wired internet, but that's not really helpful if you brought a tablet thinking you'll have wifi in your room.

The reviews written before this one all sum up the perfection of this hotel. And yes, you should have your dinner on the terrace on your first night; it was delicious and most romantic (and we are in our seventies!). It is a matter of personal choice but we were glad to be in the hotel and not in an apartment. The breakfasts were great and always had yoghurt and fruit which we liked to start with. Also, the staff were always helping us with our questions and even found us an early evening performance of traditional puppets just a 10 minute walk away. Great location for a city hotel as we wanted to walk everywhere but a bit noisy with traffic at the front and a pub at the back - but that's a city for you. Like everyone else we thought the terrace was to die for (but hopefully not this year).

Room Tip: Reception is on floor 5 so you might like a bedroom on this floor. We were on floor 3 so there was...

The view from the terrace of the Ambasciatori Hotel is amazing! You see cathedrals and the domes of mosques across the city with a backdrop of mountains. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast on the terrace. I only regret that we did not eat dinner here the night we arrived, as I am sure the view of the city illuminated at night would have beautiful as well. Our room was large and clean.
Although, with luggage, it is a 10 - 15 minute walk up Via Roma from the station to the hotel, the terrace view makes it worthwhile.

Don't be put off by the entrance. Reception is on the fifth floor. Rooms are nice but the oasis on the top floor terrace in such a central location. Make this place A must stay. The food in the small dining room is excellent and they made a single woman feel welcome. A rarity in Italy.

There may be some confusion about rooms in the hotel and apartments, which are in a separate building. I rented an apartment, which was excellent. After the weird check-in of going up to the 5th floor to get a key, then back down where a guy walks you out of the building and around the corner to the apartments, you get a key to an outside street door and then another key to your apartment.
My apartment opened into a small foyer, with a kitchen and bath to the right and a large bedroom (with a double bed and a cot, a small sofa, dresser and TV (no English channels), standing closet, and table (also a kitchen table and 4 chairs in the kitchen). The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils, silverware and dishes. It has a sink and refrigerator, and a stove that I couldn't get to work. There's no wifi in the room, but you can go to the rooftop bar after 5 for decent reception--otherwise, you''re out of luck. No safe in the room; good a.c. in the bedroom, nothing in the others.
The room is very quiet, despite being just steps off the Via Roma and centrally located (about 10 min walk to the train station, where you can also catch a bus to the airport). Other than no wifi, it's a great setup for exploring Palermo. In the apartments, you don't deal with the elevator and you have your own kitchen, though they really need to include a microwave.
All in all, a great value for a great location and large quiet room.

Room Tip: Ask for the apartments, not the hotel rooms
