“Fabulous old world charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2008

This is a grand old 5 star hotel, in the centre of Palermo, and absolutely fabulous. It just oozed old world charm. It's on a side street off Via Roma and about 20 mins walk from Stazione Centrale, so nice and 'out of the way'. The staff were very friendly and the concierge took the luggage to my room, which was really nice. Not overly large (2 well built people would fall over each other), but certainly large enough for a lone traveller. The bed was huge, the bathroom all marble and toiletries were all provided. It's handy for the Piazza Politeano where the open top bus stops, and also handy for the airport bus which stops there also. The 'as much as you can eat' breakfast was very extensive, all tastes catered for, with the usual continental breakfast obviously, but also toast and cereal, and bacon and eggs too. Would I go back? Yes, I would. The only negative point was that the restaurant didn't serve dinner until 8pm, which is a bit late, but then that's Sicilian practice, so it wasn't too much of a problem. Get a good deal, and try it - it's a lovely cool oasis from the oppressive heat Sicily has in August.

We spent one night here and found it perfect. The rooms were comfortable, large, clean and quiet. The staff were very friendly and amenable and the location was safe and convenient. We found the hotel on this website and agree with most of the comments. I seriously doubt you'll find much better in Palermo and can recommend it to any travelers.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2006

The hotel itself is nothing special, just an average city hotel. The location is very good, great for sightseeing around Palermo. The room was very clean, and the bathroom was not very big, but clean too. The room looked onto a narrow alleyway. I was impressed that the towels were changed twice a day! We had breakfast in the room, and it was okay. The staff was friendly and helpful, but we asked a receptionist to book a table at a good local restaurant, and when we got there for dinner there was no reservation for us! (Did they forget to make the reservation, or forget to tell us there were no tables available?). One other minor problem: a pair of glasses "disappeared" from our hired car when they took it to the car park!

The rooms have an elegant but comfortable feel, and the bathrooms are especially nice. My room was large by European hotel standards, but awkwardly shaped because this it is a renovation of an older building.

The hotel is located on a quiet street in central Palermo, between the Teatro Massimo and the Politeama Garibaldi. The cafes of the Via Principe di Belmonte are nearby.

The food in the fifth floor restaurant was above average.

Minuses: There is only one small cramped elevator, which is slow to arrive. Some aspects of the renovation (such as the poorly installed wallpaper) may not look good as time goes on. The armchair in the room looks nice, but is not comfortable.

This lovely hotel is located in a renovated elegant older building of character. It is located in the middle of the city on Via Principe di Granatelli, yet it is peaceful and "around the corner" from the hustle and bustle of downtown Palermo. Most of the city, including attractions, restaurants and shopping, is within easy walking distance. Limo or Taxi service is also available. The staff is friendly, helpful and willing to do all they can to make your stay pleasant and enjoyable. The acomodations, restaurant, bar are beautiful and delightful spots to entertain, host a business event, or simply relax. We can't wait to get back there on our next visit.
