“Fine, but not for business!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

Our impression was that a group of approx. 20 business people is far too complicated for this hotel team. A lot of things could not been taken for granted as it seems they do not have to much experience with business events.
BUT: for tourist it is absolutely recommendable! I would stay there again!
Location: quite good, only a 10min walk to the old center; close by: a lot of restaurants and little shops: Rooms are newly equipped and clean. The family room is really nice and big enough. Breakfast: good variety! WiFi worked well. Was free for business guest.

It's not too difficult to find the hotel, literally a couple of blocks from the main road that runs alongside the port. It's a three minute drive from the ferry terminal.

But if you are driving, bear in mind the parking situation. It's a small, private underground car park opposite the hotel, and larger vehicles may find negotiating the sharp entry and steep downward slope a bit tricky. You should also bear in mind that you will be required to hand over your keys to an attendant, and he will move your car around. I found mine actually touching the vehicle behind, and though there was no damage, it was a bit disconcerting. We also felt uncomfortable leaving anything at all in the cars, so removed pretty much every item - which was a bit of work since we were touring. Bear in mind that the hotel deal with the car park runs to midday; you're then charged on an hourly basis if you stay longer. You pay the attendant directly in cash.

It's easy enough to stop temporarily outside the hotel to load and unload, and then go to the underground car park. It is on the other side of the street from the hotel.

The hotel itself is friendly but mildly chaotic. They had our bookings wrong, and we had to produce email evidence to show we had booked four rooms with two adults and a child in each. In the end, we ended up with three rooms, one of them very large to accommodate more people. It didn't really matter, but could have been a problem if we hadn't had evidence of what we'd booked.

Another point worth noting is the tiny lifts/elevators. They have a luggage trolley, which is great, but it literally fits touching all sides of the lift. It's quite an adventure getting in and out with luggage using the lifts!

The rooms were OK, but the carpet needed a deep clean. The hotel itself wasn't dirty, but we did notice our son's socks were a but grubby when he'd been wandering around the room. The bathroom was very good, with a very easy walk-in shower. We also had a balcony overlooking the street, though you need to fasten it properly or the air conditioning switches off. We had no problems with noise.

The breakfast too was excellent and the staff worked very hard indeed. They were all very friendly, and very keen to help when we asked to leave our luggage so we could spend the day visiting Palermo. You can also buy your bus tour tickets from reception - the starting point for them is only five minutes' walk away. The staff were happy to recommend a very nice local restaurant two minutes' walk from the hotel.

This is a good hotel to stay in, conveniently located, good value and with staff eager to please. There are a few oddities and areas for improvement, but as a stopover in Palermo, it's good value and a good choice.

This is an extremely well run hotel, with good facilities, clean, and with friendly and helpful staff. The only niggle is that the two lifts (elevators if you're American), each carrying a maximum of two people, are inadequate for the size of the hotel

Nice Hotel, clean and the accessible room really was fully accessible for us. The only thing negative about the room was that the seat in the shower hadn't been used in to long time so we could not move it... We used a lot of towels instead, kindly brought by the staff!
At breakfast we noticed the staff stopping at some tables offering caffe/cappucino... On our second day we asked for a caffe by the staff and were told that 'coffee is in the machine'. We tried that coffee on the first day and it was horrible to say the least... We persisted and was finally brought two cups that almost were thrown into our laps...
Day three we once again noticed the straff offering coffee to some and not to others...by now we figured out the difference between the two groups, those speaking another language were sent to 'the machine'....
When we went to the reception they did listen to us, our complaint really were taken seriously and we got a fantastic cappuccino....
The rest of the staff was fantastic, great welcoming, not a problem even to get extra matrasses, the AC easily adjustable, upon request we were brought extra towels and pillows, the room was clean and in the cleanup during our stay we hardly noticed anything disturbed, it was just cleaner than we left it!
Had we not been so angry at breakfast we would have given better rewiev!

The reception and breakfast area are OK but the rest of the hotel is tired. It's like staying in a Premier Inn at best. The air conditioning in our room barely worked. Breakfast was adequate.
To park your car costs 16 euros and you drive it into the depths of the earth into a private garage where this poor man sleeps all night so your car is available at all times. It is worth doing as on street parking is impossible really. We had two nights here but wish I'd rejigged the other days so we only had one: we arrived Friday evening and planned to do Palermo on Saturday but we didn't need all day.

Room Tip: we were on the 6th floor and that was quiet

The neighborhood is not as clean and nice as others. The lobby is like the photos but beginning to show some wear. The breakfast room is attractive and the food very inviting. After the lobby, everything falls apart. The elevators are in a remote area of the lobby, unmarked, and appear as though they were service elevators in the past. They are smaller than postage stamps, the one luggage cart BARELY fits and if you want to ride with it you'd better be skinny. The carpet is dirty and frayed, the walls around the elevator are black with marks and the elevator walls inside and around the call button are not clean. Our room, just outside the elevator, had a door that opened into the hallway instead of into the room and the room itself was so small that 2 of us with luggage could hardly move around. The white walls were dirty, the carpet was thin and the bed was small. The lights were all florescent and the fixture on the desk was so bright and took up so much space that we disconnected it and put it on the floor. It looked onto and adjoined a stairway, which we felt was a security issue. The bathroom, on the other hand, was shiny and clean with contemporary chrome fixtures. The shower wasn't enclosed and alot of water sprayed onto the floor. Beware of the computer connection. If you use the ethernet cable provided, you will automatically be charged. The hotel provides wireless, but the signal wasn't strong. The same outside company provides the wired connection, telephone and tv, NONE of which operated. We could not call from room to room and no one from the outside could call us. Our friends in another room had the same issue. Management did finally bring new phones, but the tv never functioned. We had friends staying in a nearby hotel for the same price we paid and we moved to that hotel after one night because the difference was like night and day. The Mercure is, if you can walk, near enough to the old city, but it certainly needs a good renovation. When we went to check out, the hotel charged us for the interent that didn't work. I didn't notice until several days later, so I returned to ask for a refund. After some discussion and a bit of resistance, the money was refunded. The Mercure is, if you can walk, near enough to the old city, but it certainly needs a good renovation.

Perfect location for a trip to Palermo. Great restaurants, shops and neighborhoods within walkable distance. Stayed there for two nights in a well maintained room. Just what you would expect from a Mercure hotel. The breakfast was ok-ish albeit with a horrible coffee-machine. The staff seemes to be aware, cause when we asked for a normal cappuccino, this was served without any further questions asked.
So if you are looking for a decent hotel at a reasonable price this is your place.
