“Central, but little else to offer.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

This is indeed a handy hotel right at the centre of things in Palermo, giving you access to shopping and the opera. It is an easy walk to good sidewalk restaurants, or even to a MAC if you feel inclined to have universal fast food.
Food is the one thing that this hotel lacks. Breakfast is at an absolute minimum. In fact we got the feeling that the staff in the tiny breakfast room were more interested in clearing the tables than catering for your morning break-fast. Juice was of a poor quality. The range of breakfast fare was very limited.
The rooms are okay, but be warned that the lifts are tiny. Be prepared to wait if you are part of or arrive at the same time as a tour.
The barman deserves a medal for service beyond the call of duty at night, rounding up both food and drinks for us.
If you are keen to have a Palermo Hotel that gives convenience of access to the city, the Politeama may be for you.
Don't expect to find the man at reception good humoured and attentive, especially when you are in a hurry to retrieve something from the inconvenient safe behind the reception area. The girls were okay.
The Palermo area is worth exploring. Beware of shop prices. Don't expect bargains.
Enjoy Sicily.

We stayed twice, only because it had been pre booked for us. Dreadful room, begrudgingly changed, not clean, front desk Luke warm. Don't know how they got 4star
Locality quite convenient esp for airport bus. You don't need a car and they have no parking

The hotel is in a great location--across the street from Politeama square and all of the great shops. It is also across the street from the hop on/hop off bus which we found very convenient. The front desk clerks were somewhat helpful and not always so friendly but they did answer our questions. For us the WI-FI was free and the breakfast was included. The hotel is older with interesting decor but for the price it was worth it. We booked at booking.com and got a great rate foe two nights. I believe it was under $200 for both nights and we had a triple on the fourth floor overlooking the piazza. The beds were comfortable and the room and bathroom were spacious. If I remember correctly, I think they only turned on the air conditioning at night. I would recommend it for the right price and for the location.

Good and fairly quiet location with numerous bars and restaurants in the local area. Go down the pedestrian side streets to escape tourist menus though. The hotel itself was fairly basic and shabby but the bedrooms were quiet which was good.

As part of a package holiday, 4 of us stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. It is centrally located allowing one easy access to shopping streets. The immediate surroundings are pleasant, given that it is located on the Piazza Ruggero. However, Palermo overall has many poor and run-down areas. This hotel is not impressive overall. It is quite old and rooms are either very large or extremely small. Rooms were very clean however. Breakfast is quite basic and nothing to get excited about, tinned fruit, poor coffee, basic cheese and cold meats. Dinner was not available to the Tour Group so we dined elsewhere in the evening.
The bar facility is quite poor, service by one barman only. A Sambuca on our drinks list was very obviously undrinkable and another bottle was unavailable ! It would not be a location of choice again.

We just returned from a 7 night stay at the Politeama. Our room, overlooking the Piazza, was large, clean, and quiet as long as we kept the windows closed. Breakfast is included and was varied, fresh and delicious. The staff at the front desk was helpful and friendly. The one and only thing that bothered me was the weird decor in the lobby. What exactly were they thinking?
But that is a small thing compared to all the good things. Location matters. We were across the street from the Politeama Garibaldi Opera House, and a 5 minute walk from Teatro Massimo.
All the great shopping is in the area. Prada and H&M. Local restaurants are good and plentiful.
We felt at home.

Room Tip: We were in 405. I'd say higher floors have a better view than 1 or 2nd.

This hotel is in a great location in a good area of Palermo with transport services to and from the airport on Piazza Politeama. Local bus services are excellent and the city tour bus is nearby. We stayed in May and had a large bright room (with three windows) overlooking the Piazza and full air-conditioning. We had a safety deposit box in the wardrobe. The bathroom was long and narrow, very clean and with all the necessities. The staff on reception were helpful and friendly and we had free wifi at all times. The TV had all the Sky Sports channels and Sky news. The only let-down was the breakfast. It was the worst we have ever had in a 4-star hotel. The juices were cordials with water added; the prepared fruit was all tinned; there were eggs but they were hardboiled and cold; the cold meats and cheeses were scarce and the coffee was appalling. On the two mornings we were there nobody checked our room number or came near us to see if we needed anything.
We paid €240 for our two nights and would have expected a good cup of coffee for breakfast.
