I loved catching the bus to Mondello each day from Palermo. I felt like a local as not many people spoke english, if any. Mondello has a long stretch of beach with a scenic view around of the surrounding mountains. We were there during a busy holiday period so the beach was always crowded. I still loved it though. The only negative was the constant yelling of hawkers going up and down the beach all day long. But, as annoying as it is to hear the same thing yelled over and over, it does mean that you don't even have to leave the beach to get food or drinks. Also, if you're heading to Mondello for the beach, just make sure you get there early in the morning as you will find it difficult to find a place on the sand if you come to late. Most of the beach is also taken up by seasonal or yearly "subscribers" who are guaranteed a sunbed in an allocated area in which only members can access. This leaves only a thin strip of sand for non-subscribers hence the crowdyness.
