Massimo Plaza, much like Palermo itself, has a faded grandeur about it which gives it real charm.
There are 2 reasons for the 5 star review. The location and the staff.
It is perfectly placed to explore the old city, the new city and to get to the bus stops to Monreale and Mondello. There are plenty of excellent restaurants nearby and bars are just around the corner.
And the staff are just lovely. The lady serving breakfast (whose name we didn't catch) was one of the most delightful people we've met on all our travels. And while I'm on the subject, breakfast is just great. Admittedly, not the choice for one on a diet, but don't come to Palermo to watch your calorie intake, you'll miss half the fun. The rest of the staff couldn't do enough for us with dinner recommendations, taxi arrangements, extra pillows and more. I'm 5 months pregnant and they made the stay very comfortable indeed.
This isn't a 'luxury' hotel (and neither does it market itself as such), but it is the perfect base for a visit to Palermo.
