“Fascinating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Really interesting collection. It is housed in a private apartment used by the owner when not open to the public. Collection of local and southern Italian tiles beautifully displayed. Highly knowledgable and enthusiastic guide who could answer questions on any aspect of the collection. I found it inspirational and quite unlike any other museum we have visited.

“As amazing as described”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

All previous reviewers have said it all - a beautiful collection of Italian and Sicilian floor tiles collected over many years (since the owner was 11) and quite unlike tiles I have seen anywhere. Displayed beautifully in wooden trays and with an expert English speaking guide who can comment on any particular tile you point out. The entrance is not very obvious so I have added a photo!

“Difficult to find”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

It is worth a look but you need to know it is difficult to find. The collection is in a building that has no signage. You make your reservation and once you get there there you need to ring the right apt. for them to open the 1/2 door. When you get inside, you feel it's all a scam because everything is under construction and there are no signs. When inside you go to the right and upstairs to another door/apt. I had a problem because I kept ringing the bell and could hear voices inside but no one came to let me in. Very frustrated! Finally, I got in and Carmelo (?) the guide showed me around and he spoke English well. It was interesting but I'm commenting so you are aware it is not easy to locate.
I do suggest as they improve directions in their confirmation email because as a business charging 7€ per person, they should consider the customer and make it easier to understand.

Dear visitor,
Thank you for your feed back!
We apologize for the inconveniences you had to find the exact location of “Casa Museo Stanze al Genio”.
We must say it is the very first time in many years of activity we receive such a complain. We will treasure it trying to explain the precise track you are supposed to follow in order to reach us on Trip Advisor, on our site and on our social network pages.
Any how we would like to remember that Via Garibaldi is one of the main roads of Palermo’s Historical centre, the house number eleven (11) is visible on the building’s façade, (we are not allowed to put banners or different signs) then you find our name on the intercom.
For what concerns the works in progress you encountered, unfortunately the building is not totally owned (ALAS!) by our foundation, it is a condominium with many owners that have encountered several problems for the agreement and the works payment (we promoted and are the main financers of the building’s refurbishment).
We had problems to keep the museum open despite the works but at last succeded!
After having reserved your visit you are supposed to ring at the arranged time. The guide starts the tour at the established hour (we are very strict cause we don’t want people who comes in time to wait for late comers).
The guide is supposed to interrupt other’s visit in order to open the door to late comers so it is possible you are not opened immediately if you come late.
We are happy you found the museum is completely restored and in perfect conditions, consider that the subscription fee (7 €) includes a guided tour and the chance to join all the events organized by our association during the year.
Hoping to see you again in the near future (our collection is in continuous evolution) we wish you all the best.
Pio Mellina

“An amazing collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

This small museum is actually a large private collection of painted Sicilian tiles from the late 16th century to the early 20th century. They are beautifully displayed and our guide was excellent. Highly recommended.

A private collection of tiles, fascinating to see. Only three rooms, but beautifully restored and displayed, the English speaking guide was brilliant
