This area is very pleasant and calm but is only one step away from the frenetic city activity. It is well worth a visit.
This square, just off the Quattro Canti (4 corners) seems to be the epicentre of sightseeing in historic Palermo, most walks start/end here as do the horse drawn carriage rides. However in August 2012 it was covered in scaffolding and didnt look that great! I've given it a 4 rating as I think the area its in and whats underneath the scaffolding is architecturally stunning.

One of the best of the town, the square is surrounded by excellent buildings: the town hall (XV-XIX century) two baroque churches and several ancient buildings. The fountain (XVII century) is fantastic.
I walked past this piazza a few times without even realising it was significant. The fountain is all fenced off to the point where you can barely see the thing, there are weeds growing all around it, and many of the buildings around it are derelict and boarded up.
