On a recent cruise stopover I chose the Mondello/Monte Pellegrino/Santa Roalia Shrine bus trip and was more than pleasantly surprised - the trip through Mondello was rewarding - best and most expensive area in Palermo - the ride up on Monte Pellegrino was all it promised to be, wonderful views around every bent, very curving roads and finally the Santa Rosalia Shrine. It was easy to reach - about 80 steps up to the shrine - and for a catholic a must see. It is beautiful and inspiring and very moving, considering all the healing that was done because of a visit to the shrine. The array of silver gifts (displayed healed body parts) from grateful cured patients attest to that. I visited this shrine on a weekday in January - there was no crowd. I can honestly say it was a wonderfyl experience and it was beautifully displayed.
