“As Grand as its name”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2012 via mobile

A beautiful grand hotel (once a bank), in lovely part of the old city. We had a very lovely room with both a large (not all rooms do) and a tiny balcony. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good buffet breakfast in beautiful rooms. Free wifi but no coffee making facilities in room. Highly recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone traveling to Palermo, you won't regret it. There are parts of Palermo you just wouldn't want to stay in, but this area is lovely and close to the things you will want to see.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2012

We spend some time at this hotel in April.During our stay there only a small number of guests in the hotel. Our room was of a good size, especially the bathroom, and very clean. There was an opening window for fresh air.The bathroom had double wash basins and also a heated towel rack which was great for drying small items of washing.

We ate in the restaurant one night and found the food good and prices comparable to other similar standard places around town. They offer a discount if you are staying in the hotel. The breakfast was excellent from our point of view. In a country where breakfast cereals are not popular or common, usually hotels have a very poor selection. Piazza Borsa had a good selection od cereals including several different types of muesli. There was also an interesting selection of pastries and cakes. For those who prefer a hot breakfast, there was only a basic selection.

There was free WiFi access in the public areas downstairs, but you need to ask at the desk to get a password generated for your stay.

We found the location very handy, being an easy walk from the railway station and also close to a number of sites in the old part of the city. In summary this is a very clean and quiet haven to return to after a day out seeing the sites.

In a city that surely can be seen as a place equally beautiful as it is, potentially, disgusting at the same time, this hotel stands out as a quiet respite in a tucked away little square only a few steps from the main drag. The location is quite good for this hotel (if you're planning to tour the city), the staff is quite good, and the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. They also did a great job with valet parking - if you need it.

This is an ancient building.... in previous lives, this building was, among other things, a monastery and stock exchange. It has been been meticulously transformed into this oasis in an otherwise, very busy and congested city. Among the most obvious architectural highlights, it has a retractable roof that transitions an exquisite 15th century setting into an indoor/outdoor space. This truly unique lobby features a 15th century fountain as a center piece that perfectly frames the setting.

The only negative was that we had been out to wine country and returned with numerous wines that we wanted to consume. They were very steadfast against it in public areas. Meanwhile, their own wine list, was poor. We stayed at 3 other hotels on this trip in Catania, Taormina, and Ragusa and we had no other issues with consuming our wines (we visited wineries throughout the trip). Therefore, for this very strict policy, I took away a star and rated this place four stars. I hope that the management takes note of this. They did so many other things well that they they may want to reconsider this policy. My guess is that very few consumers will want to consume their own wines and that it would cost them nothing... or, they can, at minimum, improve their wine list.

Another one of my favourite types of hotel - old city centre hotel. A wonderful converted old bank building with impressive central courtyard . Our room was huge with vaulted ceilings and nice furniture. It was luxurious without ostentation.

Dining room very large with high ceilings too , formal white coated waiters giving of dining in The italian 50's . I mean that in a v. complimentary way. Breakfast good.

It is centrally located with a old piazzabehind it with interesting restaurants and famous old fashioned sandwich bar - it's owner in hiding from the mafia because he was the1st one to organise non-payment of protection money in the city.

We loved this place and will be staying again.

Was positively impressed about tis hotel and it's rooms. You would not expect it when you see the buildings around. But you are in the centre of Palermo and the position is ideal. Will go back. Only internet is a bit a mess. You need a cable and in some rooms the plug is hidden behind a huge furniture impossible to find. Service is attentive. Breakfast is above average but could still be improved.

Great service and attention. A former bank and stock exchange remodeled into a luxury hotel. Right in the middle of the heart of Palermo. General Manager hosted a welcome reception for our group with champagne and appetizers prior to dinner in the hotel. Spa was partially under construction, but fitness centre was available for use.

The Piazza Borza has been converted from a bank. The rooms surround a court yard that has a retractable roof. The rooms are elegant and spacious. The breakfeast area is in a spectacular room and the food was equal to the room.
The hotel is in a very old section and within walking distance of most Palermo sites. Although the area is dark and quiet at night, we felt safe in walking around. There are many great restaurants within a 10 minute walk.
I would stay here again.
