Villa Trabia
About
Villa Trabia is and a historic villa in Palerm built in the eighteenth century by Ignatius Lucchesi Palli, Prince of Campofranco. In 1814 Joseph Lanza Branciforte, Prince of Trabia and Butera bought the villa and garden. The villa includes a small park and seventeenth and eighteenth century buildings. The building of classical style and a large central body consist of two levels and two wings, which enclose a small courtyard in the center of which is the entrance. The villa houses a branch of the town of Palermo public library. The park is divided into two parts, cut in two by a natural gradient (with the old "pirri, limestone quarries), which now houses a road, the two sections of the park are connected by a bridge of Baroque style, inside it are the old greenhouses and a large fountain

We were staying in the area and noticed a green space on the map- so pleased that we investigated! The gardens are beautiful and very atmospheric.

Some things aren't in the greatest repair, but that makes it feel like a living space rather than a museum. So brilliant that this is free and it was possible to just wander in.

Sat one early morning, drinking my second cup of coffee, overlooking the English Garden. Prepared myself for a visit to the Villa Trabia, a few minutes away, having some expectations, as always. Went out, crossed the street, walked up to the gate of the villa. Not so much to expect, so far. No tourists, just a few locals having their morning run. Birds, though, plenty of them, singing and opening their wings in the breeze. Just a few steps and you experience a unique atmosphere.
Once this garden had 2700 species. Today only 150 remains. But past and present can´t be separated - it´s all there. The grandeur, the greatness, is still present. Nothing is perfect, the decline can be seen everywhere, but beauty remains and the romantic impression is without sentimentality. The Villa Trabia holds an art library. A sweet lady showed me around. The house filled with students reading, listening to music, watching film videos - studying art, right in the eye of art itself. Sat down on a bench underneath a very big tree, talked to an engaged gardener, telling me the names of the trees. Flowers from one of them covered the ground. Left the Villa Trabia through another gate? Yes, I did. But not really. Still inside.

I discovered this garden by chance... I was really surprised considering that is right in the middle of town... and in a chaotic town! it is a very calm and relaxing place... great to read a book.

I dob't know about villa but the park is very beautiful, with calla lilies and turtles living there, with a lot of green and quiet atmosphere. Some guy was making yoga also.
