This is a huge market stretching through mant streets. We loved looking at the many differernt and,to us,strange foods on sale. The whole atmosphere is fascinating and worth a couple of hours. It is also close to other sights like churches,etc.
A cross between a medina and a street market, if you like to look and smell and feel, this is the place to go. Piles of carefully arranged vegetables, fish stalls, lighting shops, curtains and shoes and clothes and street food and utter tumbling chaos. A feast for the eyes.
This market is overflowing with fruit, veg, fish & meat. Everything is as fresh as could be, and very inticing. the selection of fish is fascinating. A cook's delight.
the small streets and little squares in the Ballaro district are the setting for a abundance of impressions: fresh fish, meat, and many many sorts of vegetables. Sellers are shouting out to praise their goods and to attract your attention. Although frequented by tourists, also the Palermo inhabitants come here for their daily shopping of fresh fish and veggies.
A must see when in Palermo. Be wary of your belongings (like purses, etc.) is what we were told, but did not really experience or see anything strange.
Through a labyrinth of streets and back alleys you are suddenly thrown into the middle of a world that could be in the 21st century or back a hundred years! The streets are full of vendors selling fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, cheeses, bread and pastries - customers arguing trying to get the best prices and deliveries by hand barrow - a performance that has been repeated for hundreds of years! We were fascinated. If you have issues with food hygiene do not visit here but the pure theatre of it all he'd us spellbound. An experience not to miss!
