“Excellent Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

The great advantage to staying here is the excellent location, the bus to the airport and the train station stop almost outside the door and the city sightseeing bus does the same. There are several nice restaurants nearby and a really nice café/bar, Antico Caffe Spinnato, just around the corner. The rooms are a bit spartan, but they're clean, the beds are comfortable and the breakfast is good. Our bathroom was a bit strange, there was no shower screen or curtain so the floor got soaked and the toilet was very high but it was ok. It's not the height of luxury but it has everything you need and the staff were very helpful. I would stay here again.

The Hotel Garibaldi's selling point is its extremely friendly and helpful staff, and convenient location in the chic new town of Palermo. Rooms are spacious but the bedding minimal and decoration somewhat spartan. Garibaldi would be a solid choice for those on a business trip, but is a little too functional for those on a romantic break or holiday. Fuse boxes decorate the reception corridor, wifi available at a premium, and breakfast decidedly mediocre. All in all a little disappointing...

Arriving late on a weeknight from the train station, we six were quite fortunate that the taxi driver knew the location. A small sign is all one sees to designate the hotel. Once out of the taxi, we realized that there was no street level entrance, STAIRS to go down to the entrance, and no porters to be found. We buggy-lugged the luggage and entered a nicely appointed, modern lobby...............only to be met with a stone faced employee who checked us in and gave us our keys. (The next morning, the young lady and subsequent young women on the desk were beyond helpful, charming, and made us feel quite welcome-I shared this info with the manager)

Rooms were spacious, clean, air conditioning good, bathroom clean and hot water was very good. We were not facing the street and had no noise from outside whatsoever.

Breakfast (included) had juices, coffees, pastries, cheese and salami (delicious), rolls, scrambled eggs, bacon and assorted yogurts etc. Staff brought cappuccino upon request and it was delicious.

Location! Location! Location! Hotel Garibaldi is located near many, many delightful restaurants, taxis, buses, Hop On Hop Off, and located within walking distance to many incredible sights.

We walked the area surrounding the hotel both day and night and felt quite safe and enjoyed every minute of it.

Downside: steps going down to entrance of hotel...........not good for elderly or handicapped.

We stayed here for one evening while exploring the major sights of Palermo and was very happy with Hotel Garibaldi. The hotel has a private parking area which costs additional €10 per night but seems worthwhile given the great location and ease of mind from having to find parking on the streets. The slight downside is that we were asked to hand over the car keys to reception in the event they need to move the cars if the car parks gets too full, but it worked out OK for us (our car was still there the next day!) so it wasn't a big worry.

The hotel itself is very clean and sharp. Our room was clean and warmly decorated like a modern business hotel room. It's not terribly expensive and yet offers a great base for exploring the city of Palermo.

If you are a tourist, this hotel is located so that you can walk to most of the attractions. We found we were also able to stroll in the neighborhood in the evenings quite safely.

The rooms are large (especially by european standards), the bathroom was huge and modern, and the breakfast bar was abundant with quite a nice assortment of both cold and hot foods.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful. There was always someone around that spoke english, and they were all very accomodating.

We were on a special meal plan that included dinner each evening at a sister hotel (the Astoria Palace). The staff arranged to shuttle us over and back each evening. The Captain and his staff also provided excellent service and made our dinner each night a real pleasure. They even gave us some samples of local deserts to try along with their outstanding cakes and pastries.

I would certainly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Palermo.

Room Tip: If you want quiet room, ask for higher floor away from the street.

We had just one full day in Palermo so we picked this hotel for its central location, proximity to the hop on hop off city tour ( just outside) and the airport shuttle ( across the square).

The hotel is modern, the rooms were spacious and the staff helpful. It provided an ideal base for our one night stay and orientation of the city.

The hotel does not have its own restaurant, other than for breakfast. It has a very limited bar. It is really for those who want B&B rather than full service. It has a business centre and small gym.

The one black mark I have against the hotel is that you must pay for wifi. No other hotel charged us for Wifi while in Sicily.
