“In all the Tour Books”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Impossible to know how you are supposed to go through the line or get beverages, but even though the Palermitans have that stand-offish tough guy demeanor, they are actually very kind and generous people. Ask them. Food is kind of cafeteria quality, but it is a Palermo institution for many reasons and in a cute small piazza. Worth a visit for lunch or snack.

“Curious seating arrangement spoilt restaurant.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

We went to the Antica Focacceria on the advice of friends but should have eaten at the bar/cafe downstairs rather than upstairs.
Food was fine but our meal was spoilt by a couple of things. Firstly, despite the fact that the restaurant was not full we were placed in an odd diamond arrangement in the centre of the room with 3 other couples, which meant that we nearly ate as an eight. Secondly when we ordered French fries with the mail course the waiter neglected to mention that the meals came with potatoes.

“Lovely find and v cheap!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

I liked the self-service and the price. It was also a charming old place and the courtyard outside was a nice place to sit and linger a while.

“Atmosphere is great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

This is a choice spot. I had great pasta of the day at lunch (with tomatoes and green olives) at the cafeteria. I tried the bucatini con sarde (sardines) for dinner at the restaurant but didn't like (I am not big on sardines). The pizza with anchovies could serve 4-5, it has tons of cheese on it.

Basic Sicilian food in a perfect little square. At lunch - do not leave your uneaten food on the table (pigeons are fierce). At dinner - pigeons appear to be sleeping or elsewhere. At dinner- a wonderful violinist striolled in and played beautiful music.

“Just for tourists, average food and service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

The square in which the restaurant is situated is most lovely which is the best part of this restaurant. The food is very average which for Italy is disappointing however the portions are large and filling which may suit some. The prices are higher than most normal restaurants you will find in the centre and the service is not particularly attentive. There are far better places to go than this one, try Ferro di Cavallo instead which is a quarter of the price but a million times tastier!
