Rain as heavy as a monsoon descended on Messina when our ship docked early November. We decided that the rain wasn't going to put us off our Sicilian lunch so we headed for Ristorante Alberto which was only a 10 minute walk from the port. We were after some fresh seafood and pasta after the promising reviews on here. We were not disappointed. We walked into the restaurant which was modern, crisp white and spotlessly clean and were greeted with a big smile and friendly face. When we sat down we were each given a lovely glass of Prosecco which went down rather nicely thank you very much. This was followed by a large, basket of warm, home baked bread which was just divine and I opted for the lobster linguine and my husband had the macaroni a la mama. OMG, it was so fresh and tasty and had huge hunks of lobster meat, the pasta was al dente and cooked to perfection and the sauce was tasty and silky. The macaroni was gorgeous, lots of cheese and fresh chunks of aubergine to finish it off. Afterwards we were so full that we couldn't eat another thing. But we were given, on the house, fresh Sicilian lemon cake which was outstanding. It's amazing that you can squeeze that wee bit more in when it has sugar in it. We loved our lunch, sitting in wet clothes did not detract from the gorgeous food and I highly recommend a visit. I guarantee you'll not be disappointed. It was honest, fair, reasonably priced food in a lovely environment served by people who genuinely love what they do and it shows through their food. We'll definitely go back if we're ever in Sicily again.
